I wasn’t sure what I was looking at when I first saw these Melissa + Gaetano Pesce shoes.

Granted that the first pair I came across was the nude colored ones which have the tendency to resemble some sort of skin infection, I was trying to decide whether these were some new orthopedic device or just another one of Melissa’s funky forays into shoe designing.

It turns out, the interconnected PVC circles that make up these shoes are not just for style, not for correcting foot problems but are meant to be cut away.

This product of the collaboration between Melissa and Italian architect Gaetano Pesce is meant for mass customization wherein the wearers are expected to cut, style and decorate the shoe whichever way they want.
