I had a chat with a friend recently and she told me that she has never worn pumps her entire life. As an editor for YNS, only the web’s biggest community for shoe lovers, I was of course in disbelief when I heard that. She then proceeded to explain that she doesn’t like pumps because they expose the top of the foot (the part of her body she hates), cover the toes (the part of her body she likes), and are usually styled too femininely or her.
Then and there, I resolved to take up the challenge to a find a pair of pumps that she would like. I didn’t have to search very long because I almost immediately came across these Alexander Wang ‘Ali’ mesh pumps which were at the top of the newly arrived heap at Shopbop:
Alexander Wang ‘Ali’ mesh pumps, $435.00
Trust fashion’s Boy Wonder Alexander Wang to design a chic, functional pump in the perfect boy-meets-girl style.
These ‘Ali’ pumps feature an extended suede panel vamp — a nice loafer-inspired, top-of-the-foot-covering detail. Alexander Wang retains their leg-lengthening aspect by keeping the toes open (also perfect for showing off that new pedicure!). The mesh panel sides keep things breezy and non-restricting, which is good for someone like my friend who would be trying pumps for the first time. And as I’ve said, these ‘Ali’ pumps are in that perfect boy-meets-girl style; a mix of sleek masculine lines with a for-women-only 4.5″ stiletto heel.
What do you think? Would the Alexander Wang Ali mesh pump be THE pump for women who have an aversion to wearing pumps?
