Stefano Pilati absolutely killed it with the gold metal shield-covered ‘Cardinal’ loafer pumps he sent down the Yves Saint Laurent runway for Spring 2012. They were instantly one of the most talked about shoes after the show and naturally, one of the quickest selling styles as soon as they hit online retail stores.
So it just makes sense that they continue with the shield style as it’s proven to be such a success. You ladies were lukewarm towards it on the ‘Cardinal’ pump but check it out on this ‘Catherine’ pump — do you appreciate this subtler design more or is all that hardware still too heavy for you? :

The gold metal shield on the ‘Catherine’ looks stronger and less dent-attracting but it has less of the WOW effect that the ‘Cardinal’ has. I’m wondering if the shield is removable just like on the ‘Cardinal’ but I’ve got a feeling no one’s going to be wanting to do that since the shield is essentially what you paid for in this shoe.
The ‘Catherine’ also comes in this gold and purple version which is wise for YSL to do because this is one of the best color combos ever:
