In January 2014, The Family Stone actress Sarah Jessica Parker graced the grand opening of The New School University Center with her fabulous presence.

The actress-slash-producer-slash-designer showed off her impeccable style in an all-black ensemble that only a bonafide style icon could pull off.

Nine years earlier, she starred as the contemporary New York City career woman Meredith Morton in the 2005 American comedy-drama film The Family Stone.

She was 40 years old when the film was released in the United States on December 16, 2005.

For her performance as Everett’s (Dermot Mulroney) girlfriend and later Ben’s (Luke Wilson) love interest, Sarah Jessica Parker was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. In 2018, she discussed her role in an interview with Vulture.

“I’m not sure if I had finished Sex and the City yet, actually. When I first met [director] Tom Bezucha and the offer came, I had recently finished. I was feeling good. I had just completed a long run as part of a project that I was proud of and had obviously changed the course of my life. I felt very privileged, and it felt like we were able to stop [the show] in a way that we all felt good about.”

“But also I did have a young son, and I was looking forward very much to being his parent and having real time with him. When Family Stone came up, I remember that I had some time between wrapping Sex and the City the series and starting a movie. I knew my son was going to come with me, which was really important. That’s kind of the beauty of movies: They’re a finite period. While they are intense and all-consuming, it’s kind of like a window. As a parent who wanted to spend time with my child, it was ideal.”

To help open the New School University Center, SJP rocked a pretty brocade dress from Tracy Reese that featured three-quarters-length sleeves, a scoop neckline, a full skirt, and a pleated detail.

The Hocus Pocus star wore her hair in soft waves around her shoulders, and she finished off another cool and classy look with gorgeous earrings from Fred Leighton.

Before you start thinking that this black dress is a little too tame for Miss Carrie Bradshaw — take a look down and check out the rest of the outfit.

Sarah finished off the monochrome look with dotted black stockings from Fogal and stunning Manolo Blahnik ankle boots that featured jeweled trim.
