Mariah Carey was the most glamorous New York subway rider last Friday when she hopped on the 1 train at Franklin Street station in a glittering blue ball gown and sky-high stiletto heels.

There’s no news yet on what prompted her to take public transport instead of her usual limo, but she was very keen on documenting every moment of her plebeian ride.

Mariah began with this Instagram snap of her in a cleavage-baring Atelier Versace dress whose thigh-high slit showed the Sergio Rossi cage sandals on her feet:

Possibly deeming her Sergio Rossi shoes too luxurious, Mariah later changed out of them and into the Gianvito Rossi “Diane” double-band mules with just as high stiletto heels for her now-famous ride on the subway.

That was an uncharacteristic move for the always fabulous chanteuse; in fact, Mariah’s diva side did have second thoughts about getting on the subway.

In the video below, you can see her doubting her decision, stepping all over the hem of her dress with her Gianvito Rossi mules and saying, “I thought it could’ve been a good idea.”

Mariah, however, soldiered on, gamely took the subway, and endeared herself all the more to us. She eventually arrived at her final destination, the 2014 Fresh Air Fund Gala, still looking as perfectly put together as she did in the first Instagram photo she took on this fateful day.

We don’t mind the extreme plunging neckline, the weird styling with Chanel gloves, and the tired butterfly accessories — Mariah took the subway in a gown!

Earlier today, Mariah posted a picture of her pushing her twins on park swings while in a full-length Azzedine Alaia dress:

Could looking glamorous at everyday events be Mariah’s new thing? If it is, we’re on board — Mariah Carey in round-the-clock diva mode would be very entertaining to watch.
