Chris Ivery, a music producer who helped write the song “Cheers (Drink To That)” from Rihanna’s fifth studio album, Loud (2010), joined his wife Ellen Pompeo at the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscar Party at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, California.
The two met at a grocery store in Los Angeles in 2003 and began dating six months later. He proposed on her 37th birthday and got married in 2007 with the New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg as the legal witness to the ceremony.

In July 2015, the then 45-year-old Ellen Pompeo couldn’t help but giggle as the paparazzi cornered the actress, who had just emerged from a luncheon with her husband Chris Ivery, as well as family and friends, and asked her about the possibility of having another child.

The mom-of-two gave birth to her second child in 2014 via a surrogate and kept it a secret for two months to protect the surrogate’s identity before sharing the news on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
“She was born two months ago,” Pompeo, 44, said. Jimmy Kimmel applauded her for her secrecy, to which she replied, “Pretty good, right?” “The mayor of New York City married us, and I kept that a secret for five days, too,” the Grey’s Anatomy star said of her husband Chris Ivery.
“I’ve done it before. The covert thing is kind of fun. This baby was born via surrogate, so I felt an obligation to keep the surrogate’s privacy. That was of utmost importance to me.”
