You may not know who Shriek is if you’re not a fan of Spider-Man comics. This is why we’ve broken down all you need to know about Naomie Harris’ role in the Spider-Man/Venom franchise.

Who is Marvel’s Shriek?

The Ravencroft Institute, the Marvel Universe’s Arkham Asylum, is home to many of Spider-most Man’s dangerous foes. Shriek began her career there.

An accidental encounter-turned-partnership with fellow convict Carnage solidified Shriek’s transformation into a supervillain. Whether she’s alone or with Carnage, Shriek is a formidable adversary for both Spider-Man and Venom.

However, like many of Marvel’s complex villains, Shriek’s crime sprees are all the result of a painful upbringing.

Shriek’s criminal insanity and obsessive drive to establish a twisted supervillain family of her own are fueled by her lack of a solid mother figure.

History of Shriek

Shriek’s true name is Frances Barrison. Frances’ mother mistreated and abused her as a youngster, leading her down a path of crime and drug abuse.

However, Frances is one of the few mutants whose talents didn’t develop naturally as they grew older.

To reawaken her powers, she needed to be shot in the head by a police officer and then exposed to the Darkforce Dimension (due to an encounter with the hero Cloak).

She was subsequently imprisoned in Ravencroft, when she was initially resurrected as Shriek, but was soon liberated after Carnage’s escape and joined forces with the formidable progeny of Venom.

In the Marvel Universe, this partnership has caused a lot of pain and suffering for the heroes.

Naomie Harris’ Portrayal of Shriek in Venom: Let There Be Carnage

What is the function of Naomie Harris’ Shriek in Venom: Let There Be Carnage? The arrival of Carnage in the Venom film franchise has been highly anticipated since 2018, and the arrival of Shriek goes hand-in-hand with Carnage.

When all is said and done, Eddie and his co-symbiote face an entirely new challenge in this sequel. One of the symbiote’s two flaws is directly exploited by Shriek’s acoustic capabilities (sound and fire).

While she’s often seen as Carnage’s counterpart, Shriek is still more than capable of striking out successfully on her own, as can be seen in the film…

Other Characters & Cast Members in Venom: Let There Be Carnage

As the titular character, one of Marvel’s most nuanced characters, Venom, is naturally back in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, with Tom Hardy reprising his role as the film’s anti-heroic fan favorite.

Andy Serkis was in charge of the direction, with the script written by Kelly Marcel, based on an original tale by Hardy and Marcel.

The director asked Naomie to portray Frances Barrison / Shriek in the movie. Naomie also worked with Andy Serkis on the 2018 adventure drama film Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.

Among the returning cast members are Reid Scott, Peggy Lu, and Michelle Williams for the follow-up.

Woody Harrelson plays the psychotic serial murderer Cletus Kasady/Carnage, Naomie Harris plays Frances Barrison/Shriek, as detailed above, and Stephen Graham will play Detective Mulligan.
