Christina Milian played “Magenta” in the 2016 American musical comedy television film The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again (also known as The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event and/or simply The Rocky Horror Picture Show).

Magenta is one of the main characters in the film. She is the loyal assistant to Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Laverne Cox), the transgender alien mad scientist.

Tim Curry returned to live-action with this movie, marking his first role of such nature since “What About Dick?” (2012), and it was also his inaugural acting endeavor following his stroke in 2012.

During the performance of “Damn it, Janet,” Brad Majors (portrayed by Ryan McCartan) and Janet Weiss (played by Victoria Justice) paused by a headstone dedicated to Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. Shelley, the renowned author of “Frankenstein,” inspired significant elements of the show. Her life span, from 1797 to 1851, was correctly marked on this tombstone.

An interesting Easter egg was the “41st Transylvanian Convention” banner in the film. The number 41 signified the gap between the original “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” from 1975 and this adaptation.

Tim Curry was initially cast as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the stage adaptation in 1973. He reprised this role in the U.S. stage production from 1975 to 1976 and in the 1975 film version.

When casting for this movie, Adam Lambert was initially approached for the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. However, due to touring commitments with the band Queen, Lambert declined. He instead suggested Laverne Cox for the character, believing that a transgender actress would be apt. Lambert eventually took on the smaller role of Eddie.

Notable mentions from the movie included Ivy Levan, who played “Usherette” and represented the iconic red lips. Sal Piro, a pivotal figure responsible for the film’s prolonged success since the 1975 version, played a wedding photographer.

Other significant connections to the Rocky Horror legacy were Laverne Cox’s portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter and her “Orange Is the New Black” co-star, Lea Delaria, who had roles in the 2001 Broadway revival of “The Rocky Horror Show.”

Some elements in the movie served as tributes, like the 20th Century Fox logo mirroring the 1975 version. Richard O’Brien’s legacy with the show was remarkable; he wrote the original play and portrayed Riff Raff in the 1975 film.

The movie also included an Easter egg, hinting at Ben Vereen’s Broadway legacy during the “Wild and Untamed Thing” performance. The movie, however, faced criticism from the transgender community, especially concerning Adam Lambert’s comments and the casting of Laverne Cox.

Other homage elements, like Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s outfit, were inspired by “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” from 1994. The DVD release of the movie included an extended cut featuring additional footage and a song not shown during its TV premiere.

Some elements of the original 1975 film were retained, while others, like the title of the stage show, were corrected.

To celebrate the upcoming musical TV movie, in August 2016, the then-34-year-old Cuban singer attended the 2016 Fox Summer TCA All-Star party held in West Hollywood.

The form-fitting black number featured a plunging V-neckline that exposed plenty of cleavage. It also had racy mesh panels that offered a flash of flesh.

However, the peplum net detail and knee-length hem added a touch of modesty and classiness to the look.

The then-mother-of-one accessorized with some bling, which included a pair of earrings, a gold choker, and a matching cuff.

She wore her dark tresses straight with a center parting, highlighting her glowing complexion with earth-toned makeup.
