Chrissy Teigen talked about ethnicity and diversity at the party for the 2017 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue held at Center415 in New York City on Thursday night.
John Legend’s gorgeous wife spoke spoke to E! about her own experience as a mixed-race woman and dealing with ethnic stereotypes, saying ,”I think its really important to start embracing people…seeing them in roles that are not necessarily ‘That Asian Girl’ or ‘That Asian Boy.’ I want it to be a normal thing to be able to see Asian models, and I think Asian models are really underrepresented in the industry, especially on the runways or in magazines.”
Chrissy’s mother is Thai and her father is of Norwegian and German descent descent. John Legends’s genetic ancestry is 64% African, 32% European, and 4% Native American.
The 31-year-old model appeared to wear only a satin robe to the event. Yes, we know Chrissy has worn far riskier outfits before, but her Asian-floral-print Dries Van Noten piece (which is sold as a jacket at Barneys) looked like it was straining to be a dress. Mrs. John Legend tried to lengthen the look with Gianvito Rossi “Marie” lace-up satin thigh-high boots, but she chopped it up again with a wide gold-buckled belt cinched at the waist. She matched her just-got-out-of-the-shower look with gold hoop earrings and wet slicked-back hair.
