The 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival commenced on May 15 with a grand opening ceremony and a well-attended premiere of ‘The Great Gatsby’ in Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France. For one of the most important events of the year, the stars came in their very best. But, like any other red carpet event, there were hits and misses as well.
Here are the hits and misses spotted on day 1 of the Cannes Film Festival 2013.
Hit: Nicole Kidman in Dior Pumps
Nicole Kidman wowed the crowd in a Dior Haute Couture dress and a pink pair of Dior patent leather pumps. She kept her look simple and clean with red lips, minimal accessories, and a tight ponytail. The Australian and American actress looked very feminine and very stylish in her ensemble. Nicole was definitely a hit in our eyes!

Miss: Julianne Moore in Silver Sandals
The strappy sandals alone are fabulous. On Julianne Moore, though, they were a fashion disaster. Oh, Julianne, if only you had worn a long dress.

Hit: Freida Pinto in Gucci “Phoebe” Sandals
The ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ star, Freida Pinto, was a vision in her pink Gucci dress with a gold belt. We were more drawn to her gold embellished sandals from the same label though. They were a great match to her gorgeous gown. Like Nicole Kidman, she tied her hair up and kept her makeup simple.

Miss: Ludivine Stagnier in Peep-Toe Bow Pumps
We hate it when such beautiful women wear bad outfits, and Ludivine Stagnier, a French actress and model, was guilty of this. With such a gorgeous body, we’re not sure why she didn’t show it off with a more form-fitting dress. Her shimmery peep-toe pumps with large bows were not the best choice for the dress either. What do you think?

Hit: Paz Vega in Salvatore Ferragamo D’Orsay Pumps
Sheer dresses are typically hard to pull off, but the sultry Spanish star did it. Paz Vega looked sexy and sophisticated in her Roberto Cavalli dress. Her Ferragamo champagne satin pumps also complemented the outfit perfectly. The shoes are from Salvatore Ferragamo’s Red Carpet Collection and are made to order.

Miss: Zhang Ziyi in Christian Louboutin “Pivichic” Pumps
Zhang Ziyi’s outfit looked great — just not for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. For a regular movie night or dinner though, it would be perfect. The ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ actress’ striped Christian Louboutin “Pivichic” pumps, however, are still a hit to us. We just wish she wore them with a more formal dress. Don’t you?

Hit: Sarah Marshall in Nude T-Strap Sandals
Sarah Marshall, a British actress, was subtle and elegant at the event. She went for a 1920s-inspired dress paired with nude t-strap heels. We love how sweet and feminine she looked. What do you think of her choice?

Miss: Bai Ling in Black Peep-Toe Pumps
Bai Ling was not the worst dressed on our list, but we’ve gotten used to seeing her in edgier outfits and colorful footwear. She toned her look down a bit this time by wearing a sequined dress paired with black platform peep-toe pumps. This was one instance we wish she stepped it up a bit. What about you?
