Dolores Abernathy: A Blend of Fiction and Reality

In the world of Westworld, where the boundaries of reality and fiction blur, age is not confined to the limitations of real-world human aging.

As a science fiction series, the characters in Westworld, including Dolores Abernathy, exist as hosts—advanced robots programmed to inhabit the theme park. Their aging processes can be manipulated and customized to fit the narrative and storytelling within the show.

Although the explicit age of Dolores Abernathy has not been revealed in the series, it is conceivable that Evan Rachel Wood’s portrayal of the character aligned with her own age of around 29 years during the premiere. However, it is worth noting that the show’s creators have the artistic freedom to interpret and depict the characters’ ages according to their narrative choices.

In the world of “Westworld,” the park is intricately designed to replicate the atmosphere and setting of the 1870s. This becomes evident in season two when Dolores, portrayed by Evan Rachel Wood, finds herself at “Fort Forlorn.” Inside the fort, she encounters the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Regiment, as indicated by the flags displayed within the fort.

Critical Acclaim and Award Nominations

Evan Rachel Wood delivered a captivating performance as the sentient android Dolores Abernathy. Her portrayal of the complex character garnered critical acclaim, earning her a Critics’ Choice Award and nominations for both the Golden Globe and Emmy Awards.

Following its initial season, the show continued with its second season premiering in April 2018, the third season in March 2020, and the fourth season in June 2022. During this time, showrunners Nolan and Joy intended to develop a fifth and final season, and negotiations were underway with HBO for its production.

Unfortunately, in November 2022, it was announced that HBO had decided to cancel the series, ending the plans for the fifth season. The final episode of Westworld aired on August 14, 2022, when Evan Rachel Wood was 34 years old.

“I’ve always wanted to do it,” she told E! News’ Guiliana Rancic on the red carpet about her decision to wear suits. “I promised myself this year that I would wear a suit to every awards show.”

“I think I myself felt pressure a lot of times that I had to look or dress a certain way, and especially growing up with the industry,” Evan added.

“So I thought, you know, I’m just going to go the other way and reach out to a little girl who is like me, possibly. So that’s what I’m going for this year.”

She concluded, “It’s all about choice. Choice. Options.”
