Gugu Mbatha-Raw Pretty and Proper in Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini and Alexandre Birman Sandals at “Concussion” Premiere

On the red carpet of the New York premiere of “Concussion,” Gugu Mbatha-Raw looked comely and poised. The English actress tends to lean more on the elegant side of the fashion scale, and her ruffled and floral frock kept up with tradition.

We appreciate her modesty, but with a co-star like Will Smith, and a myriad of other fashionable celebs in attendance, we think she could have gone with something a little more memorable for the premiere of her big Hollywood debut.

Mbatha-Raw went with a Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini midi dress featuring a black ruffled sleeveless top and floral print skirt. While the contrast dress is certainly pretty on the 32-year-old actress, we think it looks a little too informal and modest for a premiere dripping with dazzling celebrities all vying for attention.

The rising star paired the black and floral frock with a pair of Alexandre Birman sandals that feature a simple knot bow over the toe strap and a knot over the ankle. The black suede fabric matches the feminine style of the dress well, but we’re not sure how we feel about the overhanging knot tassels. Dangling from Mbatha-Raw’s ankle, the large knot and extra tassels seem tacky in comparison to her rather simple and unassuming ensemble.

She added a bit of extra sparkle with a gold textured clutch and matching gold studded earrings. Her hair was clipped back in a simple and elegant bun, and the touch of pink on her lips and cheeks complimented the feminine flair of her dress.

What do you think of her dress and sandals? Do you think it was a good choice for the premiere?

Unfortunately her Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini isn’t available, but if you’re interested in snagging a pair of Mbatha-Raw’s Alexandre Birman sandals, you can find them at Footnotes:
