Through the years, the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) have offered us some of the best and some of the most downright ridiculous red carpet outfits. Not that our opinion in this really matters — when it comes to the VMAs, that there are no fashion rules.
Some ladies prefer to stick to the tried-and-tested despite the freedom to go MET Gala crazy. Some, like Hailee Steinfeld, lean more toward classic Hollywood glam. After all, a girl’s got to have a little bit of sparkle, right?

The “Starving” singer channelled a bit of Lady Gaga and Madonna, sticking to the classics with a beautiful pleated dress by Versace.
What we find most amazing about the couture piece was the meticulously sewn beadwork that fanned out from Hailee’s waist. A front cutout showed off the singer’s chiseled abs.

The “Pitch Perfect 2” star has been focusing on her music career since last year, so we’re not exactly surprised she keeps getting invited back to the VMAs.
While getting ready for the VMAs, Hailee uploaded a snap of her on the makeup chair. The adorable 20-year-old could be seen laughing as her makeup artist painstakingly tried to apply eyeliner on her.
“We’re never gonna make it to the VMAs, people,” exclaimed Hailee between giggles. But as we all know, Hailee made and slayed the carpet.
