We had to double-check that Karlie Kloss’ pictures at the 2014 amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala were identified correctly because we couldn’t believe that it was really her. For one, she was sporting mom hair. The long-bob do that she made popular for spring 2014 was given this weird wavy blow-out and made her almost unrecognizable. Take a look:

Secondly, while all other models stomped out in sky-high stilettos, Karlie chose to wear flats! Matching her Chanel fall 2011 couture pearl-beaded gown were these silver Chanel t-strap sandals embellished with the interlocking Cs:

This isn’t the first time the supermodel wore flats to a fancy event. In fact, underneath that widely criticized curtain-like Valentino lace gown Karlie wore to the 2014 Cannes Film Festival opening ceremony was actually a pair of beach–appropriate studded flat sandals.

Being 6 feet 1 inch tall with a fierce walk, Karlie Kloss definitely gets away with wearing flats on the red carpet. But for us regular folks, the following dressier, fancier, and more elegant options from Amazon and JustFab might be easier to pull off:

2. Moda Spana “Bryn” Rhinestone-Studded Flat Sandals, $59.95
