Blick, in his pursuit of a unique character for Nessa, desired a blend of authority, intellect, and distinctiveness. He recognized these qualities in Maggie Gyllenhaal, asserting that she was the ideal fit from the moment she entered the scene.
To convince Gyllenhaal to take on the role, Blick’s approach involved visiting her New York home, presenting the script, and sampling her homemade nettle soup. The filming process, spanning three months, commenced in July 2013, primarily situated in London and Romney Marsh in Kent. The production also extended to Douar el Ghadban, Morocco, and the United States for additional shooting.
The Honourable Woman” premiered on BBC Two in the UK on July 3, 2014. At the time of the show’s premiere, some of the main cast members’ ages were as follows: Maggie Gyllenhaal, who portrayed Nessa Stein, was 36 years old; Andrew Buchan, playing Ephra Stein, was 35; Lubna Azabal, the actress behind Atika Halibi, was 40; Janet McTeer, who portrayed Julia Walsh, was 52; and Stephen Rea, who played Sir Hugh Hayden-Hoyle, was 67.
