Johnny Depp has always made headlines, but now that’s true like never before. He is currently in the middle of a defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard. Five weeks of the trial have passed so far, with more set to come.
But Amber Heard isn’t Depp’s only ex.
Depp began dating Jennifer Grey, 62, in 1989. She is famous for her role as Frances “Baby” Houseman in the 1997 romantic drama film Dirty Dancing.

Their relationship lasted nine months until Grey called off their engagement just before her 29th birthday. The two met on a blind date after Grey split from her ex Matthew Broderick.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight about the release of her new memoir Out of the Corner that you can buy on Amazon, Grey was asked for her thoughts on her former lover’s trial.
“All I can say about that trial is that it breaks my heart for everybody involved,” she said.

She then went on to discuss what it was like dating Johnny.
She said to People, “There was some heat. It was a f—ing bonfire. It was literally like, ‘Are you f—ing kidding me? Are you f—ing kidding me? I’ve never seen a guy like this.’ And energetically, what it was like being with him, it was like, ‘Oh, I’m being totally, totally compensated for the s— I just went through.’ ”

Grey added, “I was in desperate need of rebounding into something that looked and felt like 1989 Johnny Depp. Trust me, it was a very soft landing. It was necessary. I was bleeding out inside and this guy saved me and just made me … not feel what I was feeling.”

Grey also spoke with Extra, and noted that Depp was “funny and sweet and just so charming and quirky and weird and self-effacing and just so unique and gorgeous, and he was obsessed with me and romantic.”
During her interview with Extra she was asked if she was at all surprised with what she’s seen or heard about her ex recently. Depp and Grey reportedly have not spoken in 30 years.

“I haven’t known him for 30 years. I haven’t talked to him. I haven’t seen him… The whole thing makes me insanely sad for everybody involved. These are people who are damaged and continuing to damage each other. It’s sad. I don’t have an opinion, except it breaks my heart… I just knew him in a very different time,” she said.
Grey’s memoir, Out of the Corner, was released in May 2022. “I will say that I haven’t watched any of it. I don’t even know how to. I don’t even know how to get Court TV,” she said about the trial when appearing via Skype on The Tamron Hall Show.
“I don’t even know where it would be. But from clips or things that I’ve come across, I don’t recognize the person. It’s nothing to do with anything that I’ve ever experienced, and it makes me sad. I don’t understand what’s going on, and I just want everyone to be okay.”
