Alberto Moretti’s velvet loafers, which have been spotted on the likes of Ryan Gosling, Adrien Brody, and Cameron Diaz, are among the most luxurious shoes in the world. But, apparently, they’re not luxurious enough for the Italian shoe designer himself. For the Monte Carlo Grand Prix last May, Moretti took his famous velvet shoes, dipped them in 24-karat gold, and created what he claims to be the world’s first wearable gold shoes.

Of course, we know that’s not entirely true. House of Borgezie’s “Eternal Borgezie” stilettos are not only completely constructed out of gold but are also encrusted with over 2,000 diamonds.

To be fair to Moretti, there’s truth in the “wearable” part of his claim as we can see women actually wearing his gold-covered round-toe pumps. And while you’d be worrying about the very flimsy-looking Borgezie stilettos crumpling under your weight, you’d only be concerned about scuffing off the gold coating of the Moretti gold shoes.

The asking price for the gilded heels? Oh, just €4,000 or about $5,132. Sounds extravagant when you first hear it, but when you compare it with the price tags of the crystal-embellished Louboutin “Daffodile” pumps or the horseshoe-like Alexander McQueen heel-less sandals — both of which are over $6,000 and don’t have a smudge of gold on them — the $5,000 for 24k gold shoes strangely starts to sound reasonable.

The Alberto Moretti gold shoes will be exclusively available at Barneys New York, Fred Segal Los Angeles, Harrods London, The Swank Hong Kong, and Level Shoe District in Dubai in September.
