Bobby Flay is a 57-year-old American chef. The very first words on his website are “Food is the center of my universe.” Cooking has made him a very wealthy man and somewhat of a playboy.

He also shares that he is most comfortable in his kitchens, both at home and in his restaurants. And, as a chef, he wakes up thinking about food.

He shares, “How will I utilize it that day? Sourcing a new flour to make a fresh, stuffed pasta at my Italian restaurant, Amalfi? Zesting a citrus fruit I picked up at the farmer’s market? Working on a new chile-flecked mayo to slather on a fried chicken sandwich at my burger spot? It’s moments like these that make me realize how lucky I am. I get to start each and every day doing something I love, something I cherish. It’s how I work. It’s how I live my life.”

It is obvious that Bobby Flay has a deep connection to food. And, that he was able to turn that passion into an extremely successful career.

Bobby Flay’s Restaurants

Flay owns a number of restaurants today and some of his original restaurants have closed down over the years. The restaurants that are no longer open include Mesa Grill, Bar American, BOLO, Gato, and Bobby Flay Steak House.

Mesa Grill was inspired by Southwestern cuisine, Bar Americain was inspired by French cuisine and both BOLO and Gato were inspired by salty Mediterranean ingredients. Bobby Flay is an artist in his own right, taking flavor inspiration with him every step of the way.

Amalfi, located in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, opened in May of 2021.

Flay says, “I’ve vacationed along the Amalfi coast and fallen in love with the owners and team at Lo Scoglio in Nerano. They’ve influenced me in a way that feels so much more substantial than any other moment or event has ever touched me. My partners at Caesars Palace have given me the tools and the resources to open Amalfi, so as you can imagine my head is buried in homemade pasta and saffron-scented fish broth for the time being. When I come up for air, I’d love for you to join me there…the first Amalfi Spritz is on me!”

And about Italy? Flay says, “I could easily live in Italy. I love the people, the language, their approach to lifestyle—and of course the food.”
