Malaysian shoe retailer Shoes Shoes Shoes has started offering shoppers who buy a pair of shoes from their store the chance to ‘get a man for free’.

It’s exactly what the slogan says it is and the men come courtesy of local Malaysian dating service Lunch Actually. All the men have pre-selected shoes they’d want to see on a woman and if the pair you buy happens to be the same as an eligible bachelor’s pick, you’ll be offered the opportunity to date him.

You can just buy the shoes and turn down the offer of course but the men also come with an irresistible bait: a minimum 10% discount. They’ll even hand over that discount voucher to you personally but that’s only if you agree to the date!

Some (really desperate?) men have even pledged a full 100% discount which means you not only get the date but also the shoes for free.

Dating a guy who shares your taste in shoes and will also buy your shoes for you? Sounds like a dream come true.

A unique marketing campaign such as this one almost always comes with controversy and this “buy a pair of shoes, get a man for free” offer already has its fair share. So far, it’s been accused of ‘shoe prostitution’, ‘shoe whoring’ and the very clever ‘shoe-gar daddy hunting’.

Call it creepy or call it brilliant, all we’re really hoping for in this new shoe-matchmaking service is a Cinderella-type happy ending (or happy endings). And maybe also to have something similar crop up in our part of the world.

Just check out the live models they chose for this shoe dating service below. Someone book us plane tickets to Malaysia stat!
