Brooks Laich met his future wife Julianne Hough through their mutual friend, Masters of Sex actor Teddy Sears, while Sears and Hough were filming the 2015 American horror-thriller film “Curve.”

In a 2016 Cosmopolitan interview, Hough revealed Laich had joked with Sears a few years prior about a dancing Juicy Fruit girl in a commercial for Wrigley’s that turned out to be Hough.

“He’d seen the commercial and was like, ‘Where do I meet a girl like that?’ I was the girl in the commercial! Teddy remembered that comment and texted Brooks, ‘You’re never going to guess who I’m doing a movie with,'” said Hough.

In a February 2014 interview on 106.7 The Fan, Laich shared that Sears asked Hough if she was seeing anyone. Sears was watching a Washington Capitals ice hockey game. After Hough said she was single, Sears got the idea to introduce the Juicy Fruit girl to his friend. Brooks Laich spent most of his professional career playing for The Washington Capitals (colloquially known as the Caps).

“I guess he just showed her the iPad and said, ‘Well I’ve got a guy for you,’ or something,'” Laich said. In December 2013, Julianne and Brooks met for the first time in Washington, D.C.
