Since Your Next Shoes began covering footwear in 2010, we’ve shopped and written about shoes sold by department stores, specialist retailers, designer boutiques, and brands themselves. Nordstrom remains particularly useful for shoe shoppers because it brings luxury, contemporary, comfort, and athletic footwear together while offering services that can make comparing, collecting, and returning shoes easier.
Instead of shopping separately at brands such as Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Aquazzura, Steve Madden, and Vince Camuto, Nordstrom lets shoppers compare different labels, sizes, widths, heel heights, and price points in one place. Its footwear selection ranges from designer pumps and sandals to sneakers, boots, extended sizes, and narrow and wide widths.
Founded as a Seattle shoe store in 1901, Nordstrom has grown into a multi-brand retailer carrying designer, contemporary, comfort, and athletic footwear
Founded in Seattle in 1901 by John W. Nordstrom and Carl F. Wallin, Nordstrom actually began as a shoe store. More than a century later, footwear remains an important part of the retailer’s assortment.
For shoe buyers, the case for shopping at Nordstrom comes down less to declaring one retailer universally “best” and more to practical advantages: cross-brand comparison, an unusually broad range of sizes and widths, Nordy Club rewards, shipping and store-pickup options, qualifying price adjustments, and a flexible case-by-case return policy.

1. Nordstrom vs. Brand Websites: Price, Selection & Shopping Perks
Buying directly from a shoe brand can make sense when you want a brand-exclusive style or the widest selection from one label. Nordstrom’s advantage is different: it lets you shop and compare many footwear brands through one retailer.
Earn Nordy Club Rewards Across Different Shoe Brands
Nordstrom’s free Nordy Club loyalty program lets members earn points on qualifying purchases at Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack, which convert into Nordstrom Notes that can be used toward eligible purchases.
For shoppers who regularly switch between brands, that creates a practical advantage over separate brand loyalty programs. A shopper might buy Jimmy Choo heels, Nike sneakers, and Vince Camuto sandals at different times while keeping those qualifying purchases within the same Nordstrom rewards system.
Same Shoe, Same Price: Why the Retailer Still Matters
Price isn’t always what separates Nordstrom from buying directly from a shoe brand. In our September 2026 comparison, the brown suede Sam Edelman Saige Bootie was listed for the same $170 price at both Nordstrom and Sam Edelman. That made the differences in loyalty benefits, shipping, and returns more relevant than the sticker price itself.

For this comparison, Nordstrom offered the advantage of earning Nordy Club points within a rewards program that spans the retailer’s many brands. Sam Edelman’s own loyalty program instead rewards purchases within the Sam Edelman brand. Shipping and return terms can also affect an order’s final value; for example, Sam Edelman’s policy states that original shipping charges are not refundable.
This doesn’t mean Nordstrom will always be the better deal. Brand websites may offer their own rewards, promotions, exclusive colors, or a broader selection from that label. The example shows why you should compare the benefits attached to a purchase when two retailers sell the same pair for the same price.
Brand Website vs. Nordstrom: Selection Can Work Both Ways
Buying directly from a designer can give you a wider selection from that particular brand, while Nordstrom may occasionally carry retailer-exclusive versions. We found a good example when comparing Christian Louboutin’s Me Dolly mules in September 2026.
Christian Louboutin’s own U.S. website offered the Me Dolly in a broader assortment of colors and finishes. Nordstrom carried a smaller selection, but its assortment included a Me Dolly style marked as an N125 exclusive for Nordstrom’s 125th anniversary.

The comparison illustrates why neither shopping route automatically offers the better selection. A designer’s own website can offer the widest range of shoes, while a multi-brand retailer such as Nordstrom can sometimes offer exclusive colors, capsules, or limited-edition styles that aren’t part of the brand site’s standard assortment. If you’re comparing red soles specifically, our Christian Louboutin shoe guide breaks down signature styles such as the Pigalle, Kate, So Kate, and Pigalle Follies by silhouette, heel height, and fit.
Check Both Sites: Nordstrom Can Sometimes Have the Better Price
It’s also worth comparing prices before buying directly from a designer. In September 2026, we found Gianvito Rossi’s Jungle Mamba sandal listed for $995 on the designer’s U.S. website. Nordstrom also carried the Jungle Mamba, but select versions were marked down from $995 to as low as $597—a 40% discount.

The lower Nordstrom price didn’t mean every Jungle Mamba color or size was available for $597; the retailer advertised a range of $597 to $995 with up to 40% off select items. That’s an important distinction when comparing designer shoes: a sale may apply only to certain colors, sizes, or versions, not every pair in the collection.
Combined with our other comparisons, the example shows why no single shopping route is always cheaper or better. A brand’s website may have the broadest assortment, Nordstrom may have an exclusive version, and either retailer may offer a more attractive deal on a particular shoe at a particular time.
Compare Shoe Brands, Sizes, and Widths in One Place
One of Nordstrom’s most useful features for footwear shoppers is its comparison tool. Instead of jumping between separate brand websites, shoppers can filter shoes across labels by size, width, heel height, style, color, occasion, and other characteristics.
Nordstrom also has extensive size and width filters. Its online shoe catalog includes women’s sizes extending above 14 in some styles and men’s sizes through 20 and larger, along with narrow, wide, and extra-wide options. Availability at the extremes varies considerably by brand and shoe.
One Retailer for Returns, Pickup, and Customer Service
Buying several shoe brands through Nordstrom also means dealing with one retailer’s customer-service and return system instead of learning a different policy for every brand. Nordstrom handles returns on a case-by-case basis rather than imposing a single return deadline, and eligible U.S. purchases can be returned free by mail or in stores.
Online shoppers can also use in-store pickup for eligible merchandise, including same-day or next-day pickup when inventory allows. Curbside pickup is available at participating locations.
2. Nordstrom Shoe Selection: Designer Heels, Sneakers, Sizes & Widths
Rather than focusing on a fixed number of shoe styles—which changes constantly—it’s more useful to look at the range Nordstrom carries. Its footwear departments include designer heels, boots, sandals, sneakers, comfort shoes, athletic footwear, and children’s shoes, with filters for heel height, toe shape, width, occasion, and activity. If you’re deciding which silhouettes are most useful beyond a single season, our guide to shoes that go with everything covers enduring styles including white sneakers, ballet flats, ankle boots, knee-high boots, sandals, pumps, loafers, Chelsea boots, and low block heels.
Extended sizing is another reason to check Nordstrom. The retailer’s online filters include women’s sizes above 14 and men’s sizes through 20 and larger, although inventory at the extremes can be limited. Shoppers can also filter for narrow, wide, and extra-wide footwear, which can make Nordstrom especially useful when standard medium-width sizing does not work.
3. Nordstrom Shipping, Returns, Store Pickup & Price Adjustments
Nordstrom offers shipping and free pickup options for eligible online purchases. Depending on local inventory, shoppers may be able to select same-day or next-day store pickup, with curbside collection available at participating locations.
Nordstrom’s return policy is notable because the company says it handles returns on a case-by-case basis rather than imposing one universal deadline. That shouldn’t be interpreted as a guarantee that every return will be accepted indefinitely, but it gives shoe shoppers flexibility when a pair doesn’t fit or work as expected.
The retailer also offers qualifying price adjustments rather than an unlimited price-matching guarantee. If Nordstrom or one of its specified competitors marks down an identical item after purchase, customers can currently request an adjustment within 10 days of the shipment date, subject to availability and exclusions. Because pricing policies can change, shoppers should check Nordstrom’s current terms before relying on an adjustment.

4. Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: What Shoe Shoppers Should Know
The annual Nordstrom Anniversary Sale differs from a typical end-of-season clearance because it discounts new fall merchandise before or around the beginning of the season. Shoes are a significant part of the event alongside clothing, accessories, beauty, kids, and home products.
For footwear shoppers, that makes the sale worth checking for new-season boots, sneakers, pumps, loafers, and other styles, not just leftover merchandise from the previous season. The exact dates, participating brands, discounts, and early-access terms vary each year, so shoppers should check Nordstrom’s current Anniversary Sale information rather than relying on dates from previous events.
5. Nordstrom Local & In-Store Shoe Services
Nordstrom Local is a smaller, service-focused concept rather than a conventional department store. These locations can provide services such as online-order pickup, returns, and alterations without carrying the inventory of a full Nordstrom store.
Services vary by location. Some Nordstrom locations also offer shoe and leather-goods repair or cleaning services, so footwear shoppers should check their specific store rather than assuming these services are available everywhere.
6. Nordstrom vs. Nordstrom Rack for Shoes: What’s the Difference?
Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack serve different kinds of shoe shopping. Nordstrom makes more sense when you want to browse the retailer’s full-price assortment, compare current styles across brands, search specific sizes and widths, or use the services associated with its full-line stores.
Nordstrom Rack is the off-price side of the business, with a more changeable assortment built around discounted merchandise. That can make it appealing when price matters more than finding a particular current-season shoe in a specific color and size.
For bargain hunters, our guide to shopping at Nordstrom Rack takes a closer look at how the off-price retailer differs from Nordstrom and what shoppers should know before searching for discounted shoes and designer brands.
7. Designer Shoe Brands & Nordstrom-Exclusive Styles
One reason Nordstrom works so well as a shoe-shopping destination is the variety of brands you can compare under one roof. Its assortment spans luxury footwear, contemporary labels, accessible fashion brands, comfort shoes, and athletic footwear. Our guide to popular shoe brands provides more background on signature styles, sizing, and celebrity footwear from labels including Gianvito Rossi, Jimmy Choo, Aquazzura, Nike, and Christian Louboutin.
Nordstrom’s assortment can also include shoes and colorways created specifically for the retailer. When we checked its designer selection in September 2026, Nordstrom-exclusive footwear included styles from Golden Goose and Jimmy Choo, an exclusive color of Prada’s America’s Cup sneaker, and Christian Louboutin shoes marked as Nordstrom or N125 exclusives.

These exclusives are another reason to compare Nordstrom with a designer’s own website rather than assuming the two stores carry identical assortments. A brand boutique may offer the broader collection, while Nordstrom may have a particular color or version that isn’t part of the brand’s standard assortment.
At the designer end, shoppers can find brands such as Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, and Aquazzura alongside fashion labels including Jacquemus, COMME des GARÇONS, and Salomon. More accessible footwear options include Vince Camuto, Steve Madden, Jeffrey Campbell, Dolce Vita, and Jessica Simpson.
For shoppers considering Jimmy Choo in particular, our guide to the most iconic Jimmy Choo shoes explains permanent and signature styles such as the Romy, Fetto, Love, and Minori rather than focusing on a single seasonal collection.
This range is particularly useful when you’re not committed to a single label. A shopper looking for black pumps, for example, can compare designers, heel heights, toe shapes, widths, prices, and retailer-exclusive versions without searching each brand’s website individually.
8. Is Nordstrom a Good Place to Buy Shoes?
For shoppers who want to compare multiple footwear brands in one place, Nordstrom remains a useful option. Its biggest advantage isn’t just the number of shoes it sells, but the ability to compare labels, sizes, widths, heel heights, and price points while using one retailer’s rewards, pickup, customer service, and return systems.
Our shoe comparisons show why it’s worth checking both Nordstrom and the brand itself before buying. The Sam Edelman Saige Bootie was the same $170 price at both retailers when we checked, making rewards, shipping, and returns more important to the decision. Christian Louboutin offered a broader Me Dolly assortment on its own website, while Nordstrom carried an N125-exclusive version. And with Gianvito Rossi’s Jungle Mamba, Nordstrom advertised select versions for as much as 40% below the designer’s $995 price.
Those examples also show why there isn’t a universal winner. Brand websites can offer broader collections or their own exclusives, while Nordstrom can offer competitive sale prices, retailer exclusives, cross-brand rewards, and the convenience of comparing many designers in one place. For shoe shoppers, checking both before buying can reveal differences in price, selection, sizing availability, and purchase benefits that aren’t obvious from the shoe itself.
