Please don’t hate me for featuring retro and vintage looking shoes today. Indulge me for a bit; just count it as a time-out and entertain yourself. So I was browsing through Shopbop’s latest inventory when this shoe from 3.1 Phillip Lim caught my attention.

I must say, I never thought such an unattractive shoe could come from the designer. Take a look:

3.1 Phillip Lim ‘Pasha’ High Cut Pumps, $395

I was willing to ignore it but then while I was browsing through a different shoe retailer, I came across the style again; this time, from J. Renee as seen below. As you can see, both look pretty much similar in terms of silhouette; the distinct features being the high sides and the narrow and pointed opening:

J. Renee ‘Frenzy’ Pumps, $92

And guess what? After browsing a little further, I found out that these two brands aren’t the only ones offering the style. There are others though not as severe. I understand that retro is the “in” thing these days, but don’t you think these shoes look a little too…”vintage” for anyone’s taste? I truly wonder why brands insist on creating such a shoe when it doesn’t even look mildly appealing.

But of course, that’s my personal opinion. How about you? Can you appreciate these high side vintage inspired pumps? Would you wear a pair yourself? Or do you think these are simply meant to be left in the museum?
