Lady Gaga joined Marion Cotillard at the 2015 Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday in Hollywood. She later paid tribute to The Sound of Music by performing a medley of songs from the classic musical.

The 28-year-old singer donned a custom floor-length Azzedine Alaïa gown that was quite tame compared to some of her past red carpet outfits.
Perhaps aiming to create headlines, she styled the underwhelming gown with elbow-length red leather gloves that looked like they could be used for washing dishes.

“It took 1600 hrs of embroidery and 25 people in Paris, he’s never before made a dress for the Oscars. What an honor. The gloves were hand-dyed Crimson, baby orchid blooms hand-painted in my hair and killer pear-shaped diamonds by Lorraine Schwartz,” the artist shared about her dress on Facebook.

“The gloves were Mr. Alaïa’s vision,” her stylist Brandon Maxwell told Style about her ensemble.
“He sent an original sketch with red accents and we tried to honor that the best we could in our hair and makeup choices. She has an incredible team, Frederic Aspiras for hair and Sarah Tanno for makeup, and we all loved coming together to create this moment.”
Do you appreciate the theatricality of the look, or do you think Lady Gaga was simply poorly styled?
