The 2025 Met Gala was truly one for the books. Not only did it break the record for the most money raised through ticket sales, at a whopping $31 million, but the theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” set the bar high for fashion and culture.

This year’s theme, paired with the dress code “Tailored For You,” celebrates Black Dandyism, a cultural movement and fashion practice in which black people have used fashion and clothing to express themselves, challenge societal norms, and defy social constraints.

A-list guests were encouraged to bring their interpretation of the movement, showcasing their individuality. While some sported traditional tailoring, others put a modern spin on things, showing off their unique flair.

Of course, no outfit is complete without shoes, and this year’s Met Gala shoe game didn’t disappoint. Black and white brogues made a huge impression, with Rihanna and Zoe Saldana rocking the chic style. Maroon shoes were also popular, with Sabrina Carpenter, Teyana Taylor, Jodie Turner, and Doechii sporting their own versions. Some classic favorites, including black boots, pumps, metallic heels, and mules, were also thrown in the mix!

Rihanna Rocks Amina Muaddi Brogue Mules & Tailored Marc Jacobs Ensemble

Rihanna is killing it in this tailored suit, striking the ideal balance between masculine and feminine, perfectly embodying the evening’s theme.

But what caught my eye was her shoes, which are a delightful mix of comfort and style. Instead of going for the traditional stilettos or pumps, she went all-in on the menswear trend, rocking a pair of black and white mules with brogue detailing. They’re seriously cool and reflect her signature style, bringing a chic and edgy vibe to the Met Gala steps, even while pregnant with her third child!

These mules, created for Rihanna by Amina Muaddi, were a modern and feminine take on traditional brogues. The perforations and lace ties were borrowed from brogues, made modern and feminine with an open back, sharp pointed toes, and thin stiletto heels. But as much as Rihanna looks great in those, there’s no way a pregnant woman should be rocking those heels.

Rihanna has proven to be a fashion icon and a master of surprise pregnancy announcements. Remember how she revealed her pregnancy with Riot during the Super Bowl halftime show two years ago? And now, here she is at the Met Gala, keeping up the tradition.

RiRi closed out the Met Gala red carpet in a tailored Marc Jacobs look. She wore a black cropped tuxedo with peaked lapels and a gray striped corset-like bodysuit underneath, perfectly hugging her growing belly.

The sharp white collar and burgundy polka-dot ascot added a touch of contrast and formality to the overall look, while the skirt brought out her edgy, feminine side. The skirt’s pinstriped pattern and two-button fastening resembled a menswear overcoat, but the center thigh-high slit and sweeping train added an extra touch of feminine elegance and drama.

Rihanna topped off her Met Gala outfit with a wide-brimmed hat and Cartier jewels, including a diamond lariat necklace, Cartier C De Cartier diamond stud earrings, and a cocktail ring.

Zoe Saldana Shines in Thom Browne Brogues & Beaded Black-and-White Gown

Zoe Saldana nailed the Met Gala steps in a head-to-toe Thom Browne ensemble. The black and white look was a hit, but what stood out were her shoes!

Like Rihanna, Zoe Saldana embraced the brogue shoe trend, wearing the American fashion designer’s $2,600 Longwing Brogues. They were expertly crafted from contrasting black and white patent leather, with intricate perforations and wingtip design that gave off that quintessential brogues vibe.

Let’s not forget the extra pops of style, like those skinny laces against black patent eyestay and Thom Browne’s signature striped grosgrain insoles and loop tabs that made them instantly recognizable!

I love this feminine take on brogues. The elevated platforms and chunky 6.6-inch block heels are just the cherry on top, giving Saldana, who stands 5’7″, an extra height boost.

Zoe teamed her heeled brogues with a coordinating black and white tuxedo dress, especially made for her by Thom Browne. The gown, which reportedly took 10,000 hours to make, featured a black plissé piqué bodice molded to her figure flawlessly with sculpted cups and exaggerated hips.

The rest of the dress, from the collar, pinstripe long sleeves, down to the skirt, is made of white ribbed fabric, intricately covered with 2.7 million white bugle beads, giving the dress a dazzling finish. White buttons ran the length of the dress and were left open from the upper thigh to create a daring center slit. Decorative white buttons were featured on the long sleeves for added texture to the look.

Zoe’s dress is inventive and on theme, and it’s made even more Met Gala-worthy with an oversized white bow at the back that cascades down into a sweeping train.

Of course, let’s not forget her hair! Saldana debuted a cropped bob reminiscent of the 1920s. I commend hairstylist Mara Roszak for creating the daring look, “inspired by the tapered, sleek, tailored lines and exaggerated shapes found in signature dandy fashion.”

Zoe rounded out her look with minimal accessories, including a pair of Buccellati Pendant earrings peeking from beneath her short and sleek hair.

Demi Moore Dazzles in Thom Browne Opera Pumps & Architectural Tie Gown

Thom Browne is slaying this year’s Met Gala, dressing Zoe Saldana and Demi Moore. And I have to say, Moore’s look is just as noteworthy.

She wore a pair of pumps with a traditional pump silhouette, but with many of the classic brogues’ defining characteristics. The black and white color combination and the wingtip vamps give these pumps a distinct brogue look. They’re trimmed with black leather and have a black pompom accent on the vamp, accentuating their feminine charm.

These pumps have block heels that provide the perfect height boost for Demi’s 5’5″ stature. They’re thick, ensuring she can dance and socialize all night without sacrificing comfort.

Demi’s heels paired well with her custom black and white gown by Thom Browne, a work of art. It emulates a classic menswear striped necktie, with an architectural loop extending over her head, recreating how a necktie is looped around the neck. The tie’s knot forms on the bust, and the skirt replicates the tie itself, with its hem and long train resembling its tip. Just one look, and you know exactly what the designer was going for!

Aside from the striking sculptural silhouette, the tie gown is painstakingly embroidered with over 1,400,000 beads! These include 222,000 black rectangular sequins, 1,093,500 black bugle beads, and 103,500 black cut beads. I’m not surprised it took 7,600 hours of handwork! Demi nailed the Met Gala dress code with this!

The sparkle didn’t end there. Demi, dressed to impress thanks to her stylist, Brad Goreski, wore stunning diamond jewelry from Shiphra, including the Shiphra Gatsby bracelet, Face to Face Ring, and a pair of Parallel Earrings sparkling with diamonds. I love how the absence of a necklace was cleverly done to draw attention to the intricately beaded gown.

Sabrina Carpenter Elevates in Burgundy Platforms & Tailcoat by Louis Vuitton

Sabrina Carpenter served some serious legs in a head-to-toe burgundy look, putting a sultry spin on the evening’s Super Fine: Tailoring Black Style theme.

I commend Sabrina for elevating her petite 4’11 ¾” frame, standing tall against the taller attendees with her burgundy platform pumps that exude an edgy, sultry flair.

These burgundy shoes are likely custom-made by Louis Vuitton, showcasing their signature craftsmanship and attention to detail. They’re crafted from burgundy leather, accentuated with black stitching that trims the uppers and ties at the back for a tailored finesse that blends flawlessly with the Tailored For You dress code.

To top it off, they have pointed toes set on high platforms and block heels about 5 inches high, adding an impressive boost to Sabrina’s charming height.

Sabrina continued her flirty vibe, pairing the platform pumps with a custom burgundy Louis Vuitton ensemble. She rocked a pinstripe suit-like bustier bodysuit with structured bra cups and a white stand-up collar, fastened with crystal brooches.

She teamed her look with a matching burgundy striped blazer, which accentuated her figure with its cropped length and fitted perfectly to her silhouette. A single button in the middle held the peak-lapelled blazer in place, while the bejeweled buttons added a touch of feminine glamour.

The floor-sweeping coat tails were a statement-making addition to her look, giving it that red carpet extravagance. However, the lack of pants stood out, a decision surprisingly made by Louis Vuitton Menswear Creative Director Pharrell himself, who helped create the look. He acknowledged Sabrina’s shorter stature and suggested that pants wouldn’t be the best choice.

“This is Pharrell,” Carpenter told Vogue. “He said, ‘You’re quite short, so no pants for you.’ So, here we are.”

Carpenter accessorized her sultry ensemble with jewelry pieces from Chopard, adding that extra glimmer with two pairs of diamond stud earrings, a selection of diamond rings, a long necklace, and a diamond-encrusted watch.

Teyana Taylor Turns Heads in Kiki Platform Boots & Custom Zoot Suit

Teyana Taylor was one of the most talked-about attendees at this year’s Met Gala, and I can see why. She went all out in her black and burgundy red outfit, and her choice of shoes elevated the look literally and figuratively.

She wore Marc Jacobs’ famous “Kiki” boots, tailored to match not only her outfit’s motif but also the Met Gala theme. They are meticulously crafted using black leather with red front toes and heels, accented with perforations to align with the evening’s tailored theme.

These boots are iconic for their 6-inch block heels, 3-inch platforms, and multiple straps running the front shafts. But the highlight? The tiny roses on the straps nod to Teyana’s 2018 song “Rose in Harlem.”

In keeping with the event’s theme, Teyana added a pair of gray socks, often used to complete a menswear-tailored look.

She teamed her shoes with a zoot suit, co-designed with Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter, whom she worked with on the 2021 romantic comedy Coming 2 America.

Teyana’s three-piece suit was a masterpiece that oozed opulence and high fashion. Her red waistcoat had a sheer decolletage and black buttons trailing down the front. To amp up the extravagance, she accented her outfit with diamonds by David Yurman. The vest’s high collar sparkled with an 18k white gold necklace, while the waist was draped with glimmering chains and crystals.

She paired the striking vest with a pinstriped gray and red suit, accented by another crystal chain that cascaded down her right pant leg. This three-piece ensemble was a sight to behold, but what captured everyone’s attention, including mine, was her coat.

Inspired by her Rose in Harlem song, the extravagant burgundy coat featured structured padded shoulders that enhanced the look’s vintage elegance and a pleated satin lining that added a luxurious touch.

The coat was adorned with rose embellishments, including tiny ones running down the cape and a large one on the chest. The words “Harlem Rose” were embroidered on the edge of the cape, and I love how the inclusion of archival Renaissance brooches added an element of grandeur to the coat’s design, cleverly echoing the cultural richness of the Harlem Renaissance.

It’s obvious Teyana didn’t skimp on accessories. Her red leather gloves offered a touch of edgy elegance and paired perfectly with her cane, which brought Old Hollywood glamour vibes reminiscent of the Golden Age. But no doubt the cherry on top was the crimson velvet fedora hat and the matching durag; it was chic, classic, and gave off major diva vibes!

Jodie Turner-Smith Embodies Victorian Equestrian in Fringe Boots & Burberry

Jodie Turner-Smith looked sharp in her Victorian-inspired burgundy outfit by Burberry, which she flawlessly paired with matching boots. Her commanding appearance further solidified her status as a style icon!

Jodie’s “Cameo” boots, crafted from rich burgundy leather, have a classic ankle boot silhouette with pointed toes and high heels. The fringes on the shoes, reminiscent of tassel loafers, add a vintage element to the look, perfectly complementing the evening’s theme.

I love how these boots seamlessly blend with the rest of her outfit!

Jodie turned heads on the Met steps as she paired her burgundy shoes with a matching burgundy Burberry ensemble that paid homage to the famous black equestrian of the Belle Epoque era, Selika Lazevski.

Jodie perfectly captured the essence of Lazevski in her 1981 portrait, photographed by Paul Nader, adorning herself with a tall top hat and a bustle coat.

Jodie looked every bit the belle-époque belle in her striking Burberry ensemble. Her bustle coat was a nod to Victorian silhouettes, with a fitted wrap bodice accentuating her tiny waist and a structured, voluminous skirt that gave the illusion of fuller hips.

I love how Burberry combined the traditional Victorian silhouettes with modern touches. The rich burgundy leather and the ornate-embossed floral design made the look feel both classy and contemporary!

Jodie wore a sunflower-jacquard shirt and corset under the extravagant coat, accentuating her tiny waist even further. She matched the look with matching pants, emphasizing her long, lit frame.

Jodie added a touch of sparkle to the look with some jewelry by Marli New York, but the real standout was the striking Esenshel hat. It was tilted to one side, adding a whimsy and character to the outfit.

Doechii Keeps It Edgy in LV Mary Janes & Logomania Short Suit

Doechii recently came under fire for allegedly mistreating her staff before the Met Gala. She was captured on camera demanding more umbrellas to shield her from paparazzi. I was hoping she was trying to cover up some extravagant surprise or something, but unfortunately, her debut Met Gala look fell short of my expectations.

Doechii made an unexpected choice of footwear for the event, opting for a pair of chunky, maroon Louis Vuitton Checker Mary Janes instead of the traditional red-carpet high heels. They are made in Italy of glazed calf leather with bold straps, large buckles, and thick rubber soles inspired by workwear, adding a touch of urban edge to the ensemble.

Though simple, these shoes make a statement and give Doechii’s outfit a bit of edge. Pairing them with tall ribbed maroon socks gives off an era reminiscent of the ’90s style, adding a touch of nostalgia to the overall look.

Doechii’s first-ever Met Gala look was a letdown considering her usual penchant for extravagance and eye-catching fashion choices. While her all-white Louis Vuitton ensemble was on theme, it fell short of wowing the crowd.

There was no denying that Doechii’s look screamed logomania. Her white waistcoat and tailcoat, emblazoned with the iconic LV monogram, commanded attention. A crisp white shirt underneath the monogrammed vest provided a clean background, contrasting nicely with the bold maroon bow tie. The Damier check shorts, cut high above the knees and belted at the waist, added an element of playfulness to the look.

Doechii went all out with her dandy look for the Met Gala, complete with an afro hairstyle and a cigar. She completed her look with jewelry from Tiffany & Co. and a Louis Vuitton branding on her cheeks. Though the former was a chic choice, the latter seemed strange.

Kylie Jenner Glows in Bejeweled Ferragamo Pumps & Herringbone Dress

Kylie Jenner made a showstopping appearance at the Met Gala, wearing a head-to-toe black and gray ensemble from Ferragamo.

While her outfit was gorgeous, my eyes were instantly drawn to her footwear. Made of shiny patent leather, these glossy pumps featured pointed toes whimsically adorned with a gemstone flower embellishment set against a bed of beads.

These pumps boasted delicate straps wrapped around the foot and tied at the back. They were finished with sleek stiletto heels, adding perfect height to Kylie’s 5’6″ frame.

Kylie’s Ferragamo pumps were undeniably chic, but the straps didn’t seem as secure as expected. Kylie even revealed she had to tape the shoes to her feet. The reason remains unknown, but I assume the straps provided minimal support as they looked delicate and probably lacked stability.

While Kylie Jenner’s look was certainly attention-grabbing, her ensemble didn’t fully adhere to the Met Gala theme. Although the outfit included elements that could be associated with traditional suits, like the use of gray wool herringbone fabric, its overall connection to the night’s theme was somewhat lackluster.

Kylie sported a simple yet striking ensemble, with a gray wool herringbone dress featuring a sweetheart neckline secured by a halterneck strap and complemented by a sweeping skirt. A sheer black corset accentuated her figure in the middle, adding an element of surprise, while a hip-high slit enhanced the bold and daring nature of the design.

Despite the overall simplicity of the outfit, the frayed elements on her skirt and top offered a dramatic touch. The look was elevated with long black opera gloves, crafted from a sheer material similar to the bodice, adding a touch of drama.

A selection of Lorraine Schwartz earrings and a ring added sparkle to Kylie’s appearance!

FKA Twigs Glitters in Manolo Blahnik Crystal Mules & 1920s-Inspired Gown

FKA Twigs sparkled on the Met Gala red carpet, radiating an undeniable allure. She looked like a vision in a shimmering ensemble that was feminine yet on theme, making her one of the most eye-catching stars of the evening.

Twigs’ selection of the Manolo Blahnik “Lurum” mules was brilliant, elevating her already dazzling appearance to new heights. Crafted in Italy from luxurious brown satin, the shoes were meticulously adorned with sparkling crystals along the vamp and an asymmetrical strap across the foot.

The 3.5-inch stiletto heels provided the final touch, giving FKA Twigs’ 5’3″ frame the perfect boost.

They paired well with her flapper-style dress by Wales Bonner, which blended the glamour of the Harlem Renaissance with a contemporary twist. Instead of leaning into the Met Gala theme’s literal interpretation, filled with clean, sharp lines, Twigs’ dress brought to life the glitz and glamour of the 1920s.

Despite my preference for a more feminine and modern take on tailoring, I couldn’t help but admire FKA Twigs’ look, which highlighted her toned physique. The bodice was a standout, adorned with a dazzling crystal scalloped pattern and complemented by a plunging V-neckline held in place by crystal-trimmed shoulder straps.

The lower portion of the dress featured a drop waist, elongating FKA Twigs’ torso. It was finished with a darker ostrich feather skirt that cascaded gracefully right below her knees.

A cream-colored Lemarié silk stole adorned with white ostrich feathers on each end enhanced Twigs’ diva look!

While I think the dress is already a masterpiece, adding a few minimalist diamonds would elevate it to the next level of glamour and make it Met Gala-worthy. Fred Leighton and Kwiat’s rings and long diamond earrings completed the set, adding to its overall beauty.

Charli XCX Embraces Gothic Tailoring in Thigh-High Boots & Feathered Look

Charli XCX graced the Met steps in a fierce and statement-making ensemble, sticking to the theme while staying true to her signature style. Dressed in head-to-toe black, the ensemble was a masterclass in reimagining classic tailored staples. Charli said her look was an homage to the “self-expression of dandyism.”

I love how she incorporated her edgy, brat-coded aesthetic into the look, wearing a pair of thigh-high boots from Ann Demeulemeester. These boots are made of lamb leather and have stretchy shafts that snugly fit her legs’ contours, adding a racy touch.

An authentic statement piece, these boots have slit accents along the vamps and ankle, enhancing the pair’s edgy style. They feature a silver-tone rear zip for easy wear and are finished with 5-inch towering stiletto heels that add a touch of seductive charm, making Charli look sensational. They’re selling for $1,136 (from $2,273) at Mytheresa.

These boots perfectly complemented Charli’s custom Ann Demeulemeester ensemble, a reimagination of a three-piece tailored set. Oozing gothic vibes, the outfit included a see-through sheer skirt that showed her black underwear, coupled with a long train and a risque hip-high slit trimmed with black feathers.

Her ensemble’s upper portion was equally captivating. A cropped top covered with black feathers was layered underneath a cropped blazer.

The pièce de resistance? A feather headdress popped from behind her head, adding a touch of ethereal mystique to the look.

Charli completed her eye-catching ensemble with a selection of glitzy jewelry from Bucherer. She fastened a pair of Rock Diamonds Cluster earrings to her ears and adorned her hands with a few rings, including two Inner Fire rings and the Baguette Love ring.

Cynthia Erivo Brings Rococo Drama in Lace-Up Boots & Givenchy Couture

Cynthia Erivo showed up to the Met Gala in true maximalist fashion, bringing a dose of Rococo extravagance with a hint of a gothic flair like Charli XCX!

Her knee-high boots were a nod to the lavish fashion of the 18th century. They showcased a classic style with black leather construction and thin laces that ran up the shafts. The pointed toes complemented the sophisticated aesthetic, while the sparkling brooch made of pearls and vibrant red, gold, and clear gemstones was the icing on the cake, providing elegance and an extra boost of opulence.

Completing this pair were the thick platforms and high heels, boosting Erivo’s 5’0 ½” height.

Cynthia looked extraordinary in an ensemble that combined elegance and drama. She paired her boots with a stunning, intricate gown designed by Givenchy’s creative director, Sarah Burton.

Looking majestic, she wore a beautifully executed back-to-front sliced jacket and a flattering black corset adorned with 43,400 red Swarovski crystal floral embroidery.

The bottom half of the ensemble featured a pair of bloomers that revealed a striking thigh tattoo and a voluminous black tulle high-low skirt attached to the bloomers with a dramatic train. I love how this combination contrasted with the structured, extravagant jacket, providing a perfectly balanced look. About 950 hours were spent on the elaborate design of Cynthia Erivo’s dress.

Styled by Jason Bolden, Erivo accessorized with sparkling jewelry from Bucherer, including statement rings and earrings, adding a touch of glamour to her already magnificent look. She also sported her signature elaborate nail art, which required two full days to create.

Hailey Bieber Keeps It Minimal in Zanotti Mules & Saint Laurent Tux Dress

Hailey Bieber’s Met Gala look was quite underwhelming, to say the least. Honestly, she looked unprepared, and it seemed like she had forgotten that it was one of the year’s most glamorous events. Her decision to wear a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti platforms added a touch of character to her look, but did little to save her from blending into the background.

These mules, made in Italy of glossy patent leather, feature peep-toes perched atop a thick platform and a sky-high stiletto heel, providing an elevated touch to her 5’7″ stature.

While I love these shoes, they were too casual for the occasion. Hailey paired them with black Saint Laurent Monogram crystal-embellished tights, adding an extra layer of classiness to the outfit, but the whole look didn’t suit the event.

Hailey wore a black Saint Laurent mini blazer dress to the evening’s theme. While it was a classic and elegant choice, it appeared basic despite the event’s grandeur.

Her look fell flat. She wore a traditional black double-breasted blazer dress, failing to add a twist or at least make any significant statement on the red carpet. It featured satin notched lapels, padded sleeves, and a straight hem that skimmed her thighs.

On the bright side, Hailey Bieber’s Tiffany & Co. jewelry added a touch of opulence to her otherwise boring look. Her selection included teardrop earrings, a diamond bracelet, and multiple rings. But the standout piece was undoubtedly her platinum necklace set with diamonds totaling 79 carats.

Suki Waterhouse Looks Effortless in Louboutin Pumps & Kors Tux Vest Gown

Suki Waterhouse possesses an effortless elegance that radiates in every look she wears. Her style was no different at the Met Gala, as she opted for a straightforward yet chic all-black look.

She wore a pair of black satin Christian Louboutin “Pigalle Plato” pumps. These classic pumps effortlessly elevated her ensemble with a touch of class and sophistication. They have pointed toes, platforms, and stiletto heels high enough to add height to her 5’7″ model frame.

Suki collaborated with Michael Kors to create her Met Gala look, a bold and modern take on the traditional tuxedo vest. They went a step further by deconstructing a perfectly tailored men’s tailcoat into a captivating backless vest top. This bold move added a sultry, ultra-feminine twist to the traditional tux, turning it into something sophisticated and seductive.

It was cinched at the waist with a tonal belt, paired with a matching long column skirt with a side slit, adding a classic element with a nod to the vents seen in men’s tailoring.

This is one of those uncomplicated yet innovative looks, and I must say it’s pretty impressive. The extra touch of Jacob & Co. jewels only enhanced the overall look, adding a touch of luxury and glamour.

A standout piece was the Riviera necklace, which was elegantly draped around her neck. She also wore a sparkling diamond tennis bracelet on one wrist and a boutique watch encrusted with deep blue sapphires and diamonds on the other.

Megan Thee Stallion Sparkles in Stuart Weitzman Sandals & Josephine Baker Tribute Dress

Megan Thee Stallion was a sight as she sparkled on the Met steps wearing an all-silver look. Her choice of shoes, Stuart Weitzman’s iconic “Nudist” sandals, sparkled in every direction. They are made in Spain from silver satin and have a classic round open-toe design, allowing Megan to flaunt her pedicured feet.

They’re encrusted with over 2,100 Swarovski crystals covering the front slim straps, buckle ankle straps, midsoles, and four-inch stiletto heels.

Though Megan Thee Stallion’s look appeared to deviate from the theme of the evening, the style was a tribute to the iconic midcentury American-born French entertainer Josephine Baker.

Megan Thee Stallion showcased a striking and shimmery look on the blue carpet, pairing her silver crystal-embellished heels with a custom-made sparkling silver gown by Michael Kors.

This dress was made of elaborately patterned lace fabric covered in glittering silver sequins. It featured a halter strap with a sweetheart neckline that drew attention to her assets. However, it looked too tight around her bust, making her look like she would burst any moment.

Nevertheless, I love how the dress accentuated her hourglass figure. The tight-fitting bodice transitioned into a column skirt with a daring hip-high slit, putting her legs on full display.

Megan Thee Stallion enhanced her opulence with a voluminous white fur coat, featuring a flowing train gracefully trailing behind her.

While the look didn’t require more accessorizing, Megan enhanced the glitz with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, including a pair of 35ct diamond stud earrings, a ring, and a bracelet.

The most captivating part of Megan’s look was her hairstyle, which featured a three-tiered knotted ponytail, echoing Josephine Baker’s unique sculptural hair worn during her performance in 1951 in Cuba. She adorned it with jewels along the center, adding an undeniable touch of regal glamour.
