Red carpets tend to favor neutral palettes, shimmering metallics, and the occasional bold primary hue — but How I Met Your Mother guest star and supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio has never been one to blend in.

Nearly a decade after charming TV audiences with her cameo on the hit sitcom, Alessandra brought her signature confidence and supermodel glamour to the 2016 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York, where she paid a subtle yet stunning tribute to the late Prince in a sequined electric-purple gown.

Nearly a decade earlier, Alessandra made a light-hearted cameo in How I Met Your Mother’s “The Yips” episode alongside fellow supermodels Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, and Miranda Kerr — a fitting preview of the confident, camera-ready poise she’d later bring to the red carpet.

This actual runway reunion hinted at her natural ease in front of the camera long before her CFDA red-carpet reign.

At the 2016 CFDA Fashion Awards, Alessandra wore a gorgeously fitted sequined Michael Kors number that came in an unusual electric shade of purple.

The dress was held up by one strap over Alessandra’s shoulder, dipping to the back to show off her svelte figure.

The Casino Royale cameo model wore minimal jewelry by Chopard, which was complemented by her silver Christian Louboutin “Benedetta” sandals. The sultry “Benedetta” sandals feature adjustable buckled ankle straps and stiletto heels.

Alessandra uploaded a candid photo while preparing for the CFDA Fashion Awards. In the picture, the model was seen wearing the Michael Kors dress, captioned “Purple Rain.”

Later that night, Jennifer Hudson commemorated Prince’s birthday with a special number.
