A Glimpse into Aubrey Plaza’s Heritage and Language
Aubrey Plaza is of mixed ethnicity, with her father being Puerto Rican, encompassing Spanish, African, and Indigenous/Taíno heritage, and her mother having German, English, Irish, and Swiss-German roots.
Despite her diverse background, Aubrey has mentioned that she does not speak Spanish. This is attributed to her grandfather’s decision to raise his children in English to facilitate their assimilation, leading to a family dynamic where they speak to her in Spanish, but she responds in English.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Aubrey Plaza discussed shooting a pilot for “Olga Dies Dreaming” that allowed her to explore and center her Puerto Rican identity for the first time. Despite being half Puerto Rican, she noted that this aspect of her identity has not been a focal point in her acting career, often surprising people.
I’m half Puerto Rican and it’s such a big part of my identity as a person, but as an actress, I feel it’s never been a real focal point. I think a lot of people are surprised that I’m Puerto Rican. It’s always been this struggle to feel like you belong and this script was a lot about that. There were a lot of things about it that I was like, Whoa, this would be so amazing to work on, because it would, first of all, allow me time to tap into my own roots and ask my family questions that I should have probably already asked them.
Fashion Spotlight: Aubrey Plaza’s Signature Looks
In July 2014, Aubrey Plaza stopped by the AOL headquarters in NYC to join a discussion on her film, ‘Life After Beth,’ for AOL’s BUILD speaker series. Aubrey wore one of her most adorable outfits to date for the event.

The ‘Parks and Recreation’ star wore a flirty vibe in a Tanya Taylor floral top, a pleated miniskirt, and sky-blue Saint Laurent “Janis” pumps.

She opted for minimal makeup and a simple hairstyle to ensure her vibrantly playful outfit remained the focal point.

What do you think of Aubrey’s outfit? Would you wear Saint Laurent’s popular Janis pumps in blue?
