While Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, and Kim Kardashian wore the most revealing dresses at the 2015 Met Gala, few would argue that their ensembles ranked among the evening’s best. Instead, we’ve rounded up some of the ladies who truly impressed us with their show-stopping style and elegant interpretations of the event’s theme.
This year’s Costume Institute Gala Benefit marked the opening of the China: Through the Looking Glass exhibition, co-chaired by Jennifer Lawrence, Chinese actress Gong Li, and Vogue editor Anna Wintour, among others.
1. Reese Witherspoon Stuns in a Sophisticated Jason Wu Red Creation
The 39-year-old American actress and producer donned a red structured custom gown by Jason Wu. Our only criticism is that the dress was somewhat underwhelming for a fashion event like this. Reese accessorized with a Tiffany & Co. necklace and completed the outfit with strappy sandals by Charlotte Olympia.

2. Uma Thurman Glows with Grace in a Chic Atelier Versace Gown

The 45-year-old American actress and model was joined by her boyfriend, hotelier Andre Balazs. She donned a white asymmetrical v-neck gown by Atelier Versace.
The Pulp Fiction actress styled the understated and seductive dress with Alexandre Birman shoes and Anna Hu earrings.

3. Miley Cyrus Turns Heads in a Bold, Punk-Inspired Alexander Wang Dress

The 22-year-old daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus donned a black gown from the Alexander Wang Fall 2015 collection featuring skin-baring cutouts and all-over silver studs.

She styled the punk-rock dress with shoes by the same designer and Ana Khouri earrings.

4. Rihanna Captivates in a Regal, Show-Stopping Guo Pei Couture Masterpiece

The 27-year-old Barbadian singer, songwriter, actress, and fashion designer did not disappoint in a spectacularly elaborate couture number by Chinese designer Guo Pei, which featured a long cape-style coat.

The fashion world seemed to pause in awe as Rihanna stunned on the red carpet, draped in a breathtaking yellow gown by then-unknown Beijing-based designer Guo Pei.

She styled the dress with Christian Louboutin’s “Toerless Muse” pumps.

5. Sofia Vergara Radiates Timeless Elegance in a Romantic Marchesa Gown

While her gown paled compared to Rihanna’s ensemble, the 42-year-old Colombian-American actress, wearing a ballet-pink strapless dress by Marchesa, looked classy in her own right.
She accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Sofia was joined by her fiancé, 38-year-old American actor Joseph Michael “Joe” Manganiello, at the event.

6. Lady Gaga Channels Dramatic Eastern Glamour in a Statement Balenciaga Ensemble

The 29-year-old entertainer, who was joined on the red carpet by fashion designer Alexander Wang, channeled an Eastern vibe in a Balenciaga gown that showed what the Met Gala is all about.

She styled the kimono-inspired floor-length coat gown with sparkling leggings, towering platform heels, and Fred Leighton jewelry.

7. Zendaya Stuns in a Dramatic and Bold Fausto Puglisi Design

The 18-year-old American actress, singer, and dancer showed everyone how to dress for the MET Gala.

Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman donned a captivating dress by Fausto Puglisi featuring a hand-embroidered sun motif, a plunging black velvet bodice, and a crimson silk Duchesse asymmetric skirt.

8. Jennifer Lawrence Wows in an Elegant Floral Christian Dior Couture Gown

The 24-year-old American actress co-chaired the event in an Asian-inspired Christian Dior Couture Spring 2015 collection gown.
The dress featured floral, cutout, and gemstone embellishments along the neckline. She styled the body-con dress with Roger Vivier’s “Ondulation” ankle-strap sandals and Cartier jewelry.

9. Madonna Surprises in a Playful, Rebel-Chic Custom Moschino Look

The 56-year-old entertainer showed up in a custom Moschino dress and matching cape that read “Rebel Heart,” the title of her new album. Since we’re used to seeing Madonna in all kinds of tacky outfits, she was one of the positive surprises of the evening.

10. Emily Blunt Charms in a Dreamy, Embroidered Custom Prada Gown
The 32-year-old English actress donned a custom Prada gown and cape featuring floral embroidery.
She carried a navy clutch from the same Italian luxury fashion house and accessorized with stunning Anna Hu earrings. Unfortunately, we could not see her undoubtedly stunning Christian Louboutin shoes.
