Personal Challenges and Triumphs in 2016
The 2016 Billboard Music Awards ceremony was filled with passionate performances and tearful tributes, and Celine Dion’s moment in the spotlight was no different.

Earlier in 2016, the then-48-year-old singer lost both her husband and brother. She took the stage at the BMAs to deliver a heartwarming rendition of Queen’s “The Show Must Go On.”
Her husband, René Angélil, died in January 2016 after a long battle with throat cancer. They first met when she was 12 years old in 1980, started dating in 1987, and married in a lavish 1994 ceremony in Montreal, Canada.
“I cannot just live on like, ‘I lost my husband, my children have no father,’” Dion said in an interview with Page Six in December 2016.
“I have to stand tall and strong because this is my way of living: Stand tall, be positive, pick your battles, do the best you can, and live for today, not for tomorrow… and know nothing is perfect, not everything you want will happen.”

Celine Dion’s Shoe Collection and Billboard Music Awards Look
After her show-stopping performance, Celine was presented with the Icon Award, which she dedicated to her late husband.
Though Seal was expected to present her with the award, the tears fell as Celine’s oldest son, René-Charles, emerged from backstage to hand the prize over to his mom.
Of course, the Canadian singer’s beautiful performance and accompanying acceptance speech were enough to leave everyone speechless, but her gorgeous metallic ensemble took things a step further.

The timeless talent looked and sounded absolutely stunning at the awards show.
The one-shoulder design of the dress left Celine’s chest modestly covered, and the thigh-high split and gathered material at the hip drew attention to her long legs.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer played up the metallic shine of her gown by accessorizing with some bold diamond jewelry, including rings, a large bracelet, and some golden drop earrings.
She accentuated the color of her ensemble with bronze-tinged makeup and gave her look an effortless finish with loose wavy tresses.
Celine finished her look with a glamorous pair of golden pumps by Saint Laurent. The proud owner of more than 3,000 pairs of shoes, she has stopped counting the number of shoes in her shoe collection. In 2013, she told Katie Couric about her shoe obsession.
I go to the store, and I’m like, ‘I really like those ones,’ and they’re like, ‘What size?’ And I’m like, ‘Oh no, you don’t understand. I want them, so what size do you have? I’ll make it work, baby. I’ll make it work!’ From 5 to 10, it works!
“Some people do drugs,” Dion told Vanity Fair in 2011, “and I buy shoes.”
