Gemma Chan made two striking appearances at the 76th Berlinale International Film Festival for the premiere and photocall of her thriller-drama Josephine, and at 5ft 8 (172.7 cm) with a US shoe size 9, she once again proved how masterfully she balances proportion and polish on the red carpet.

For the evening premiere, she embraced full couture drama in a pink Robert Wun gown that elongated her statuesque frame, the sculptural silhouette enhancing her natural height while maintaining effortless elegance.

Earlier that day at the photocall, she shifted into a sleek black-and-white Khaite ensemble that felt modern, sharp, and architectural. The clean lines and precise tailoring complemented her 5’8″ stature beautifully, while her choice of refined heels in a US size 9 grounded the look with understated sophistication.

In Josephine, Gemma stars alongside Channing Tatum. They play Claire and Damien, parents to an eight-year-old girl named Josephine, portrayed by Mason Reeves. After Josephine witnesses a brutal assault in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, she begins to struggle with fear and paranoia, setting the tone for the emotional story.

With such a heavy film, Gemma’s fashion choices offered a clear contrast, delivering both high-impact couture and refined minimalism.

Let’s take a closer look at Gemma Chan’s latest outfits in Berlin.

Gemma Chan Stuns in Sculptural Pink Robert Wun Couture at the 76th Berlinale Premiere

At the premiere of Josephine during the 76th Berlinale International Film Festival, Gemma Chan looked like a modern fairytale in a dreamy blush-pink Robert Wun gown. The Hong Kong-born, London-based designer is known for his sculptural, avant-garde couture that feels cinematic, and this dress delivered exactly that kind of drama.

I loved how bold yet romantic the craftsmanship looked! The gown had a fitted, corseted bodice that hugged Gemma’s frame beautifully. A halter neckline with a keyhole cutout added structure and a subtle hint of allure, while the defined cups gave the top a slightly sculpted feel. From the waist down, the look softened, with gentle pleats shaping her hips before flowing into a full, cascading tiered skirt. The layers created movement and dimension, finishing with a short train that swept elegantly across the red carpet.

Minimal Jewelry, Soft Glam, and a Perfect Red Carpet Contrast

Gemma kept her accessories minimal, which I loved. A pair of Cartier Agrafe diamond chandelier earrings, a slim diamond bracelet, and a ring added sparkle without distracting from the gown. Her hair was styled in soft waves with a side part, one side falling effortlessly over her shoulder, while her makeup followed the same soft approach, with tones that complemented the pink dress and enhanced her natural features.

We didn’t get a clear look at her shoes, but silver or blush heels would have been the perfect finishing touch.

At one point on the red carpet, Gemma was seen posing sweetly alongside Channing Tatum, who wore a loose-fitting black pinstriped suit over a simple black tee, keeping things relaxed next to her dramatic couture moment. The contrast between his laid-back tailoring and her sculptural pink gown actually made their red-carpet appearance even more striking.

Gemma Chan’s Modern Khaite Ensemble: Quan Wool Top, Loxley Leather Skirt & Sloan Pumps

For the Josephine Berlin Film Festival photocall, Gemma Chan went for something more relaxed yet still polished, wearing a full Khaite look. I honestly love when she leans into clean, modern silhouettes like this. It feels effortless but still very put-together.

She wore the “Quan” top in a creamy off-white wool that looked beautiful against her complexion. The linear ribbing and subtle horizontal texture gave it a rich, artisanal feel. But what really stood out were the strong sculptural shoulders and the asymmetrical neckline. It felt structured and powerful, but the raw fringe detailing along the seams and sleeves softened everything just enough, adding a relaxed, deconstructed touch. A diagonal front zip added another cool touch, making the top feel more modern.

Gemma paired it with the “Loxley” black leather skirt, which sat high on her waist and fit almost like a corset through the hips thanks to its carefully placed darting. The pencil silhouette extended to her ankles, finished with a high slit and a zipper closure at the back.

Part of me wished it had been cut slightly shorter to show more leg and let the shoes shine, but I can’t deny how sleek and sophisticated it looked. Her Khaite Loxley leather pencil skirt retails for $2,800 at Mytheresa.

Gemma Chan’s Khaite “Sloan” Pumps: Black Calf Hair and Modern Kitten-Heel Precision

Chan skipped jewelry, letting the outfit speak for itself. Her soft waves and neutral makeup kept everything clean and refined.

On her feet were the Khaite “Sloan” pumps in black calf hair, and I loved how they tied the whole monochrome look together. The textured finish added depth without feeling too busy, keeping everything sleek and cohesive. A wide diagonal strap swept across the top of her foot and wrapped around the ankle, fastened with a gold-tone square buckle.

The silhouette was modern but still very wearable. With their softly pointed toe and low 2-inch kitten heels, they gave her a subtle lift. Since Gemma already stands tall, the modest heel height felt perfectly balanced. These “Sloan” pumps retail for $1,380 at Farfetch.

Across her career, Gemma Chan has paired her show-stopping outfits with equally memorable shoes—from classic Louboutins to sleek Jimmy Choo heels that elevate every look.

At the 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards, she completed her ballet-pink Oscar de la Renta gown with elegant Christian Louboutin Iriza pumps, adding a timeless red-carpet finish to her sophisticated ensemble.

She also turned heads at the Captain Marvel premiere in 2019, wearing iridescent Christian Louboutin Hot Chick pumps, a sculptural pointed-toe silhouette that added high-glamour edge to her runway-ready outfit.

During the 2022 Don’t Worry Darling Venice Film Festival press tour, Gemma’s footwear was as striking as her Louis Vuitton gowns—stepping out in razor-sharp heels featured in our coverage of the Venice Film Festival red carpet shoe moments, where dramatic pointed toes dominated.

And at the Academy Awards, she brought regal polish to her fuchsia Valentino look with refined Jimmy Choo heels, completing one of her most photographed red-carpet appearances.
