At the 2019 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Halsey paired a dramatic black-and-electric-blue Aadnevik gown with Brian Atwood’s patent leather “Babe” sandals, creating one of the night’s most memorable footwear moments.

While the gown’s bold cutouts drew attention, fans also caught a clear view of the tattoo on Halsey’s upper arm—a design created by Toronto artist Curt Montgomery during her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom Tour in 2017.

Halsey’s strapless Aadnevik Fall 2019 gown featured sheer panels, bold color blocking, and a dramatic silhouette that left her footwear fully visible on the red carpet.

She completed the look with Brian Atwood’s “Babe” patent sandals, a minimalist ankle-strap style that felt like a deliberate styling choice for such a dramatic gown. With its bold color blocking, sheer mesh panels, exposed corset detailing, and sweeping train, the Aadnevik design already delivered plenty of visual impact.

A more elaborate shoe could have competed with those elements, but the clean, open-toe silhouette of the “Babe” sandals acted as a subtle counterbalance, keeping the focus on the dress itself.

The barely-there design also complemented Halsey’s 5’3½” frame by exposing more of the foot and maintaining a longer visual line through the leg.

Finished in glossy black patent leather, the sandals echoed the gown’s darker accents while allowing the electric-blue panels and dramatic train to remain the focal points of the look.

That same year, Bella Hadid styled the exact same Brian Atwood ‘Babe’ sandals with a Roberto Cavalli Spring 2005 gown at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2019.

Jewelry from Hearts On Fire and A Little Too Much, along with her striking blue lipstick, added further contrast to the look. During the evening, Halsey also performed “Without Me” and received nominations for Top Female Artist and Top Selling Song.

From Billboard Blue to Halsey’s Bolder Shoe Story

Halsey’s 2019 Billboard Music Awards look worked because every detail felt deliberate: the electric-blue Aadnevik gown, the visible tattoos, the deep blue lipstick, and the sleek Brian Atwood sandals that grounded the drama without pulling focus.

It was a red-carpet moment built on contrast, with sharp black heels giving the sculptural gown a cleaner finish.
