She’s never afraid to take a fashion risk. On Sunday, Kristen Wiig donned perhaps her most controversial red carpet outfit to date.

The 46-year-old actress turned heads at the 92nd Annual Academy Awards wearing a red Valentino Spring 2020 Haute Couture dress and Christian Louboutin shoes that you can purchase at Selfridges, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman.

It features huge pleated ruffles on each side, a high neck, and a rectangular cape train. The red ruffled dress also boasts mesh-covered cutouts on the sides that showed a glimpse of her sideboob.

Styled by Karla Welch, Kristen paired the quirky dress with long black opera gloves and Nikos Koulis gold fringe earrings. She rounded out her look with a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Maia Labella’ pumps.

Her pumps feature tiny glass crystals set on mesh pointed toes with metallic gold trims, lace-up ankle ties, and about 4-inch heels.

Going for a ‘60s glam look, makeup artist Liz Lash applied black eyeliner, mascara, a silver eyeshadow, and nude lipstick. Hair colorist Erick Orellana told InStyle that they took inspiration from Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct for Kristen’s hairstyle.

She wore a ‘60s-inspired soft pixie cut in a blonder color and with a deep side parting, styled by Pamela Neal.

While her short stint on stage with Maya Rudolph drew laughs from the audience, her look sparked hilarious reactions and memes from the social media.

Some compared her dress to several sea creatures, a cake knife, a lobster, and even bacon. The most notable, however, was the lasagna comparison.

One person tweeted: “Kristen Wiig looks like a fish we have yet to discover.” Another Tweet said: “Kristen Wiig’s Oscar dress will henceforth be known as the Lasagna Dress.”

Actress and comedienne Bridget Fitzgerald tweeted: “I love these dresses! Kristen Wiig looks like a piece of lasagna!”

Kristen took to the stage with her The Bridesmaids and SNL co-star Maya Rudolph to present Best Production Design to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Best Costume Design to Little Women.

As they began presenting the award, Kristen told the audience: “You know what, I can’t do this.” Maya Rudolph then said they are “too upset.” They went back and forth the stage before Kristen said, “Guys, guys. We’re not mad. That was an act.” “We were acting,” Maya added.

“We just know there are a lot of directors here tonight,” Kristen continued. “We just wanted them to know we do more than comedy,” Maya added.

They later presented Best Costume through a mashup of fashion-related songs, including Sisqo’s The Thong Song, Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots are Made for Walking, and Madonna’s Vogue.
