Nicki Minaj brought her crazy, sexy, cool edge to this year’s Metropolitan Costume Institute Benefit Gala. Her decision to attend the fashion event in H&M raised eyebrows, but we think her dramatic look was one for the books.
The 34-year-old rapper enlisted the help of stylist Maher Jridi to put together a tribute to Comme des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo, resulting in an arresting look that struck the perfect balance between the night’s theme and Nicki’s signature style.
Nicki stepped out in a black bodysuit with a duchesse satin kimono top and asymmetric details. She styled it with a black oversized obi belt that featured an iconic image of the Japanese designer. The most striking element of Nicki’s ensemble was the contrasting red cape that continued into a striped sweeping train embellished with Swarovski crystal embellishments and black vinyl roses.
Nicki opted for a bold red pout and sleek, center-parted hair. She accessorized with an assortment of diamond jewels, including the Hearts on Fire “Copley” tassel diamond bracelet, and completed her dramatic ensemble with Versace’s “Medusa” platform sandals.
