At APEX Social Club inside the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas on December 31, 2018, Olivia Holt leaned into one of the decade’s defining party-shoe trends: clear vinyl heels paired with a sparkling mini dress.

The actress styled a silver sequined Showtime mini dress from For Love & Lemons with a black Coalition LA jacket and Schutz Ariella slide sandals featuring transparent vinyl straps and slim stiletto heels.
She also showed off her right ankle tattoo with the outline of a crescent moon.

The appeal of Schutz’s Ariella sandals came from how little they visually interrupted the outfit. The transparent vinyl straps created the illusion of a longer, uninterrupted leg line — one reason “invisible” heels became such a dominant red-carpet and party-shoe trend in the late 2010s.
Paired with Holt’s asymmetrical sequined mini dress, the barely-there design kept the focus on the shimmer and movement of the look rather than the shoe itself.

The Ariella became one of the defining minimalist sandals of its era because it was designed to almost disappear on the foot.
Its clear PVC straps, slim stiletto heel, and clean silhouette reflected the sleek, pared-back aesthetic dominating celebrity styling at the time, especially on red carpets and New Year’s Eve party circuits.
Schutz helped push the trend into the mainstream with styles that worked equally well with sequined minis, tailored denim, and slip dresses.
As of May 2026, the Ariella remains available through select retailers, with variations of the minimalist clear-strap sandal still stocked at Amazon, Zappos, and Nordstrom in multiple transparent, nude, and metallic versions, as well as platform versions.
Most versions of the Ariella featured a roughly 4-inch (100 mm) stiletto heel paired with either a square or softly rounded footbed, depending on the release.
While the minimalist design photographed beautifully, the style also developed a reputation as more of a “sitting shoe” than an all-night comfort heel.
Like many clear PVC sandals from the period, these had vinyl straps that could feel tight or trap heat during extended wear, leading some shoppers to size up by half a size for a more comfortable fit.

These are hot. So on-trend. The plastic is quite flexible so it doesn’t hurt or leave blisters. Fairly high heel. Straps are at the right locations to elongate the leg. They don’t feel or look cheap.
I LOVE these shoes. They are so comfortable. I wore them for 6 hours one day and 4 hours the next and they didn’t give me any issues.

Why the “Invisible Heel” Trend Still Works Years Later
Olivia Holt’s New Year’s Eve look captured a late-2010s fashion formula that still feels relevant today: a sparkling mini dress paired with nearly invisible heels that quietly lengthen the legs without competing for attention.
Schutz’s Ariella sandals became one of the era’s defining going-out shoes because they delivered exactly that clean, minimalist effect — the kind of sleek styling trick that continues to resurface on red carpets, wedding dance floors, and party dressing mood boards years later.
