Four years earlier, she starred as Claire Mathews in the 2012 American coming-of-age comedy-drama film Struck by Lightning.
The film is about a high school senior, Carson Phillips (Chris Colfer), who is struck and killed by lightning. Through a series of flashbacks, it shows his recent life and how he struggled to make his dreams of becoming an editor for The New Yorker come true.

Rebel Wilson was cast as Malerie Baggs just a day before filming started. The casting director, Michael V. Nicolo, had a dream about her for the role, and she auditioned the following day.
