In recognition of her work as a UNICEF ambassador, the Purple Hearts actress was honored with the Global Advocate of the Year award on Thursday at the 2023 United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) Awards held at Casa Cipriani in New York City.
A style star who never fails to slay every red carpet she sets foot on, Sofia Carson showed up at the event in yet another glamorous gown that reflected her signature sophisticated flair.

The colors, textures, embellishments, and extravagant glamour Carson chooses for her red carpet looks are a testament to her passion for fashion.
The 30-year-old multilingual actress donned an exquisite black-and-white gown from Italian luxury fashion house Valentino, renowned for its opulent, glitzy creations. Sparkling paillettes in a whimsical chevron pattern exquisitely embellished Carson’s magnificent gown.
These shimmering accents were embroidered against a sheer lace fabric that showed a hint of the actress’ flesh.
The striking gown also boasted a round neck, long sleeves, and a train that trailed behind her as she walked down the black carpet.
Carson has a natural hourglass-shaped figure, but the instantly slimming chevron design made her curves appear even more defined, creating an illusion of a long, lean line.

Staying true to her usual elegant style, the Descendants actress opted for minimalist jewelry and wore just a pair of flower-shaped diamond earrings and a few rings by Bulgari. Although her floor-sweeping gown covered her shoes, she appeared to be wearing heels to increase her 5’4” height.
Erin Walsh, whose high-profile celebrity clients include Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway, Jameela Jamil, Elizabeth Banks, and Jessica Alba, put together Carson’s stunning evening look.
Hos Hounkpatin fashioned the actress’ naturally dark brown hair in her signature neat, side-swept bun. At the same time, Karoline Karakeosian accentuated her hazel eyes with false eyelashes and smokey golden peach eyeshadow.
She also wore a peachy blush to draw attention to her cheekbones and completed her glam with a matching peachy lipstick.

Sofia Carson Vows to Follow Angelina Jolie’s Footstep as an Advocate of the Year Awardee
After the event, Carson shared a carousel of photos from the 2023 UNCA Awards with her Instagram followers.
She showed her appreciation to the United Nations Correspondents Association, Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, and Secretary-General António Guterres for giving her the award.
In addition, Carson cited former Advocate of the Year recipient Angelina Jolie, who said, “I will do the best I can with this life, to be of use” and promised to follow suit.
“My Voice is a voice for girls. My voice is a voice for children. I am a UNICED AMBASSADOR. And that is the single greatest honor of my life. I am forever. Infinitely. Eternally. Grateful,” Carson continued.

Sofia Carson Hosts UNICEF Gala in a Black-and-White Giambattista Valli Gown
Last month, Sofia Carson was chosen to host the 2023 UNICEF Gala held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
For the event, Carson once again opted for her signature glamorous black-and-white red-carpet look, wearing a stunning creation from Giambattista Valli’s Fall/Winter 2023 Haute Couture collection.
Carson’s dress, which featured a striking mermaid silhouette and a contrasting neckline and train, is a stunning representation of the Paris-based Italian designer’s love for voluminous shapes and classic elegance.

The off-the-shoulder gown featured a dramatic white chiffon cape train that cascaded from the shoulders and the low back design. Carson’s hourglass figure was perfectly encased in the black satin dress that fit snugly at the waist and hips and flared out from the knee into a full skirt.
Carson created her old Hollywood look for the evening with the help of her go-to stylist Erin Walsh, who added a pair of black opera gloves to her ensemble. Walsh selected the iconic $225 Wing + Weft “Bebe” gloves made of 2-way stretch satin to accompany Carson’s outfit.
She further styled the actress with Bulgari diamond earrings and the Italian luxury house’s “Serpenti Viper” bracelet in 18k white gold set with full pavé diamonds.

Completing her retro glam, Karoline Karakeosian applied Valentino Beauty products to Carson’s face. She used the V lighter in Rosa as a base primer before applying the Very Valentino foundation and the Valentino Concealer both in LN4 shade.
Accentuating her cheekbones, Karakeosian used the Concealer DN1 to contour Carson’s face before setting the look with the Go Clutch Powder in 02 and 0 universal bronzer. She also used Brow Trio in brown, Twin Liner in Black and Nero, Eye2Cheek in 04 shade, Magnificent Masacara, and the bold Rosso Lipstick in 22A.

UNICEF Ambassador Sofia Carson Advocates for Girls’ Empowerment
Sofia Carson is dedicated to improving the lives of young people, but she also prioritizes empowering girls and granting every girl the opportunity to realize her full potential.
Before she was named a UNICEF ambassador in 2020, Carson had already worked with UNICEF since 2017. She has made excellent use of her platform to impart knowledge to her social media followers about the importance of educating and standing up for young women. Her influential op-ed from 2019 urged “Congress to pass the Keeping the Girls in School Act, which addresses the barriers that adolescent girls face in accessing school.”
During her trip to Recife, Brazil with UNICEF in 2019, Sofia had the opportunity to interact with young people and gain firsthand knowledge of the global impact of UNICEF’s work. She realized that UNICEF will go to any length to guarantee that kids have equal opportunities in life.
