Praised for her performance as Gwen Stacy in the 2012 superhero film The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2, she turned down a role in the action-comedy film 21 Jump Street to portray Gwendolyn Maxine Stacy in the superhero films.

Other actresses considered for the role of Gwen Stacy include Lily Collins, Ophelia Lovibond, Imogen Poots, Teresa Palmer, Emma Roberts, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Dianna Agron, Georgina Haig, Dominique McElligott, and Mia Wasikowska.

Emma Stone’s casting was confirmed in October 2010. “It’s been an incredible journey for us to watch Emma’s star rise as an actress. She is extraordinarily talented and has a very special on-screen spark that is perfect for this role. Given her history with the studio, casting her in one of our most important franchises is a real thrill,” film producer Matt Tolmach said in a statement.

Principal photography for The Amazing Spider-Man began on December 6, 2010, in Los Angeles, when Emma Stone was 22 years old.

Born on November 6, 1988, in Scottsdale, Arizona, she turned 23 on November 6, 2011. The film premiered on June 30, 2012, in Tokyo.

Her character is killed by Harry Osborn at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. “You just have to lay there. For me, it was the easiest day [laughs]. It was weirder to watch than to film. I couldn’t open my eyes to see Andrew, and then to watch it after the fact. I could feel him, but to see his face, it’s so heartbreaking.,” Emma told HuffPost about the death scene in 2014.
