While we appreciate trendy dresses, not all fashion trends deserve the spotlight. Some should be banned forever, especially from red carpet events. Here are three dress trends we hope will disappear soon:

1. Pelvic-High Slits

Probably the most unappealing trend that happened last year was the pelvic-high slit, which just left everyone with a bad taste in their mouths.

We like legs, but showing off the pelvic crotch regions is downright tacky, no matter how “couture” the dress is. Some celebrities who boldly exposed their pelvis on the red carpet include Iggy Azalea and Kendall Jenner.

You can show off your gams; take down the slits a notch to prevent pelvic exposure. Additionally, one side slit always looks better than two slits.

2. Sheer All the Way

The semi-sheer trend was a big hit last year. Sadly, it was taken to extremes instead of played within moderation. Several unfortunate celebrities fell victim to the trend and bared all for everyone to see, turning it from sexy sheer to nearly naked.

Who could forget Rihanna’s Tom Ford dress at the CFDA Fashion Awards? It might have been all blinged out with Swarovski crystals, but it was far from glamorous.

Let’s bring back peek-a-boo cutouts and semi-sheer inserts, which are much sexier than bare-all sheer dresses. Opt for lace details instead of the usual mesh for a more romantic twist. Lace panels and overlays offer a more feminine touch compared to the edgier sheer mesh.

3. High-Low Hemlines

The high-low hemline was first introduced in 2012 and has become a big hit among celebrities and fashionistas. Because of its flirty and very feminine silhouette, it has also been a go-to style on the red carpet.

While this popular trend is not unappealing and controversial, we have grown tired of seeing it everywhere. This dress style has hogged the spotlight for two years, and maybe it’s time to retire.

For a fresher style, replace your high-low dresses with midi frocks. Midi-length dresses, like the high-low style, offer a sophisticated and feminine vibe. Opt for asymmetrical hems instead of the outdated mullet-style dresses for an edgier look.
