Tattoos have become a way for most people, including celebrities, to express art. Recently, we’ve also seen many stars getting foot tattoos.
While these tats may look cool and edgy with casual clothes, they can be awkward and out of place on a glamorous red carpet event. Some celebs cover up their visible ink with non-revealing dresses and even makeup, but some show them off with backless dresses.
1. Christina Aguilera’s Hebrew Psalm Lyric Tattoo

At the 2006 MTV VMAs, Christina Aguilera wore a heavily embellished Versace gown with a plunging neckline and a very, very low back that revealed her Hebrew psalm lyric tattoo, which reads, “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine.”

2. Angelina Jolie’s Spiritual Tattoos
Angelina Jolie is one of the most tattooed A-listers in Tinseltown, but she still looks glamorous even with visible tattoos on the red carpet.

Her beaded black Gucci gown at a private ‘Maleficent’ reception showed off several tattoos, including the 12-inch-long Bengal tiger on her lower back and a Buddhist Pali incantation on her left shoulder blade, which is said to be a protection script for her son Maddox.

3. Lena Headey’s Lotus Flower and Sparrow Tattoos
Here’s one more actress with badass tattoos. Lena Headey’s strapless Dolce & Gabbana dress revealed her big back pieces — a lotus flower and a sparrow.

All her tats are covered up when she plays the villainous Queen Cersei in ‘Game of Thrones.’

4. Mena Suvari’s “Word Sound Power” Tattoo
Mena Suvari is not just a tattoo lover; she also has a tattoo artist boyfriend named Salvador Sanchez.

The petite beauty showed off her back piece in a very festive backless Tibi “Pirouette” party dress.

5. Rita Ora’s Ribcage Tattoo
British pop star Rita Ora’s tattoos are mostly small and not easily visible in photos. But at this year’s Brit Awards, her gorgeous yellow Prada gown revealed a big piece, approximately 7–10 inches long, inked on her right ribcage.

The tattoo is an Alberto Vargas pinup girl named Rosetta.

6. Megan Fox’s King Lear Quote Tattoo
Megan Fox’s sexy Kaufmanfranco gown revealed her back quote from King Lear: “We will all laugh at gilded butterflies.”

She also has another one on her side and a Marilyn Monroe face on her right arm.

“We will all laugh at gilded butterflies” refers to a line from Shakespeare’s play “King Lear,” though it is not a direct quote. The original line from Act 5, Scene 3 reads: “So we’ll live, and pray, and sing, and tell old tales, and laugh at gilded butterflies.”

7. Nicole Richie’s Angel Wings
Nicole Richie’s angel wings back tattoo is one of the more popular celebrity tattoos, and many fans have copied it.

The stylish star wore a gorgeous velvet and sheer Donna Karan Atelier gown. Her sexy back showed her angel wings, along with two other small tattoos on the back of her neck.
