Amanda Seyfried wore a striking black-and-white Richard Quinn gown at the 69th BFI London Film Festival premiere of her upcoming film, The Testament of Ann Lee, at the Curzon Mayfair in London. While she certainly made an entrance, I have to admit, the look didn’t quite win me over.

In the film, Amanda Seyfried portrays Ann Lee, the founder of the Shaker religious sect. It follows Ann’s early life in 18th-century Manchester, where she faced persecution for her beliefs, and her journey to America with her followers in search of freedom.

I understand why Amanda chose this look; its voluminous silhouette and vintage-inspired details seemed to reference her character’s 18th-century roots. Although I see the idea, the way it was carried out felt a bit overwhelming and lacked the refined ease she usually brings to the red carpet. Her Aquazzura shoes added a hint of modern flair, but they still couldn’t balance the heaviness of the look.

Let’s break down her red carpet outfit in detail.

Inside Amanda Seyfried’s 18th-Century-Inspired Richard Quinn Gown

Amanda Seyfried wore a look from Richard Quinn’s Fall 2025 collection. It was undeniably striking from a distance, with its rich texture and structure. But up close, I found the proportions a little overwhelming for Amanda’s petite 5ft 2 ½ (158.8 cm) frame, as if they were weighing down her natural elegance and effortless charm.

The gown featured a shiny white satin bandeau neckline layered underneath a black velvet corset bodice with a sculptural tonal bow and a large white rosette at the center—very much in line with Quinn’s signature play on old-world romance. From there, the gown flowed into a voluminous black velvet A-line skirt that opened up to reveal a panel of white tulle below.

The contrast was bold, but I couldn’t help but wish she had opted for a shorter hemline like the runway version, which would have given the outfit a more modern edge.

Tiffany & Co. Diamonds Add Sparkle to Her London Film Festival Look

Amanda styled her gown with Tiffany & Co. jewels for a touch of sparkle. She wore the Tiffany & Co. Victoria necklace in platinum with a 12-carat pear-shaped diamond pendant and over 23 carats of round brilliant and marquise diamonds. While undeniably stunning, I felt it added unnecessary weight to her already heavy ensemble. I would have preferred her neckline bare to let the sculptural flower detail on her gown shine.

Seyfried tucked her straight blonde hair behind her ears, showing off her Tiffany diamond stud earrings. She then wore minimal makeup, with a soft pink lip, gentle blush, and sleek eyeliner, balancing the heaviness of the look.

Amanda Seyfried Elevates Her Look with Aquazzura “Be Mine” Platform Sandals

Amanda’s shoes, though barely visible beneath the gown’s hem, offered a glimpse of modern sophistication. She wore the Aquazzura “Be Mine” sandals, crafted in Italy from a black chiffon mesh and trimmed with delicate grosgrain.

The sandals sparkled under the lights, with their shimmering crystals outlining the delicate front straps and ankle straps. They boasted thick platforms and towering black heels that gave Amanda an extra boost in height.

Sarah Jessica Parker also wore a version of the same sandals earlier this month at the NYC Ballet Fall Gala, but hers lacked platforms, making for a more refined silhouette.
