The viral teaser for the film didn’t give us much in terms of plot, but it looks like the new trailer is doing just that.

This latest clip sees Barbie (played to perfection by Margot Robbie) enjoying her most perfect day with a bevy of other Barbies (as portrayed by Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, and more) and, of course, Ken (played by Ryan Gosling).

It’s a day filled with blue skies, glittery costumes, and a lot of dancing.

However, Barbie starts having an existential crisis and asks, at one point, during a party: “Do you guys ever think about dying?” Soon, she gets cold showers, falls off the roof of her house, and – worst of all – her beautiful angled feet turn flat.

In order to figure out what’s happening to her, she asks for the help of a guardian Barbie (played by Kate McKinnon), who gives her a hilarious Matrix-style choice between a pink high-heeled pump to stay where she is or a Birkenstock sandal to learn the truth about the universe.

Of course, Barbie chooses heels, but the guardian Barbie insists that she must learn the ways of the world in order to solve her problems.

Further into the clip we see Barbie venturing out into the real world with Ken in tow and getting into all sorts of hijinks like roller-skating in neon costumes, going to jail, and finding out that maybe not all girls enjoy playing with Barbies anymore.

If the trailer’s any indication, the movie looks like a Technicolor dreamscape with a stellar cast and a groovy soundtrack.

Come on, Barbie, let’s go party when the movie hits theaters on July 21, 2023.
