Teyana Taylor, Jodie Turner-Smith, Kate Hudson, and Tracee Ellis Ross were among the stars who stood out at the 28th Costume Designers Guild Awards, held at the Ebell of Los Angeles. The event celebrates excellence in film, television, and short-form costume design over the past year.

The dresses on the red carpet were diverse in both color and silhouette, with many opting for bold hues, making the night especially exciting to watch. The shoes were just as varied, though of course, a classic pair of pumps was never far from sight.

Let’s take a closer look at the standout looks from the evening.
Teyana Taylor Commands Attention in a Red Tamara Ralph Gown and D’Accori Platform Sandals
Teyana Taylor, who was honored with the Vanguard Spotlight Award that evening, never plays it safe on the red carpet, and this look was another reminder of why I always look forward to seeing what she’ll wear next. She stepped out in a Tamara Ralph Spring 2026 gown in striking strawberry red, which commanded attention. Against her skin tone, it looked luminous and powerful!
The bodice was the true showstopper. Sculpted and ultra-glossy, it resembled a polished breastplate. With its halter neckline, sharply defined curves, and cutout sides that revealed just a hint of skin, it had a futuristic edge that made Teyana stand out.
The gown then softened into draped silk satin that skimmed over her hips before cascading into a floor-length skirt with a subtle train. I loved how the fabric’s fluid movement offset the sharp structure of the bodice!

Given the statement dress, keeping accessories minimal was the right move. Styled by Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald, Teyana wore only a single ring, letting the gown do all the talking. Her beauty matched the drama. She styled her raven hair in a flipped long bob and emphasized her eyes with heavy eyeliner, mascara, and a subtle smoky shadow. Pink blush and her signature two-toned glossy lips completed her glam.
Though mostly hidden beneath the gown, Taylor slipped into the D’accori “Belle” sandals in black calfskin leather with a sleek, liquid-gloss finish that mirrored the shine of her sculpted bodice.
The sandals featured a delicate yet striking strappy design across the toes, including two slim horizontal bands and a thinner rope-like strap knotted at the center. Additional straps secured the foot, and the design finished with an adjustable slingback for support.
These sandals also featured pointed toes and platforms that gave the silhouette extra attitude, but the standout was the brand’s signature hourglass heel, towering at seven inches high. It added a sculptural element that perfectly complemented the architectural vibe of her gown.
You can get D’Accori Belle satin platform sandals in black satin for $565 (from $1,130) at Mytheresa.

Jodie Turner-Smith Makes a Modern Statement in a Cobalt Marc Jacobs Dress and White Le Silla Pumps
Jodie Turner-Smith was impossible to miss in a vibrant cobalt blue dress from the Marc Jacobs Spring 2026 collection. The color alone was striking, but the clean, mod-inspired silhouette really stood out to me.
The dress featured a high collar and sharp seam paneling, giving it structure and a subtle modern edge. It also came with long sleeves with black buttoned cuffs that added contrast, while the mod-style boxy silhouette looked incredibly chic on Jodie. I love how it skimmed her frame, creating a sharp yet elegant line.
The hem fell just below her knees, keeping the look polished and sophisticated. Silver and black brooches pinned at her left shoulder added a bit of shine and personality, giving the bold blue some extra dimension.

Jodie enhanced the sparkle with long diamond earrings and two diamond rings, adding just enough glamour. Her makeup was dramatic, with subtle smoky eyeshadow and mascara, while her raven hair was styled in voluminous, tight curls that flowed down her back.
On her feet, she wore white patent leather Le Silla “Eva” pumps. I have to say, I loved the crisp contrast between the bright white shoes and the cobalt dress. It gave the entire outfit a fresh, modern twist while keeping the overall look refined and effortlessly chic.
These pumps featured a classic silhouette, with pointed toes and slim stiletto heels that added height to Jodie. These pumps are priced at $836 on Farfetch.

Kate Hudson Embraces Romance in a Lilac Valentino Gown Paired With Black Crystal-Detail Heels
Kate Hudson surprised many, including me, when she stepped onto the red carpet in a lilac dress. She usually gravitates toward neutrals, so seeing her in this Valentino Spring Summer 2026 “Fireflies” gown by Alessandro Michele instantly caught my attention. The soft purple shade looked beautiful against her complexion and had a romantic, vintage charm, though it’s not a color I usually go for.
The gown featured a plunging halter cowl neckline that softly gathered at the front, creating a fluid, relaxed shape through the bust. It also had asymmetrical draping through the bodice, finished with a long ribbon detail that trailed from one strap, adding a delicate touch. The skirt continued the draped effect, with fabric gathered at the hip before cascading down into a fluid silhouette and a short sweeping train.

Her styling choices were a bit more hit-or-miss for me. The thick, diamond-encrusted Bulgari choker made a statement, but I would have skipped it and let the neckline stand on its own. She also wore earrings and rings, which would have been more than enough to add sparkle.
Kate Hudson debuted a short, layered hairstyle that framed her face, paired with lilac eyeshadow and pink lipstick. To finish the look, she chose black sandals with slim suede straps and crystal detailing, set on stiletto heels, adding contrast to the gown.

Tracee Ellis Ross Reinvents Red-Carpet Tailoring in a Peach Mugler Suit and Jimmy Choo Pumps
Tracee Ellis Ross wore a Mugler Spring 2026 skirt suit in peach, giving classic tailoring a fresh, modern update. The color isn’t for me, but on her it was striking and unexpectedly refreshing.
Her jacket featured strong, structured shoulders, balanced by a cinched waist that flared slightly at the hips, highlighting her figure. It also had welt pockets and a neat front closure that kept the look sleek, while a crystal brooch at the chest added just the right amount of sparkle.
Tracee paired the jacket with its matching midi skirt, fitted at the hips and slightly flared below the knees. I would have preferred a shorter hem to make the silhouette feel lighter and more contemporary.

She then kept her accessories to a minimum, wearing just a bold ring for a hint of shine. Her raven hair was pulled back into a high ponytail, while a swipe of red lipstick kept things polished.
A pair of black satin Jimmy Choo “Brigitte” pumps completed Tracee’s look. With their pointed toes and tall stiletto heels, they gave her outfit a sharp, streamlined edge. I liked the stitched band detailing across the toe and heel, which added a touch of definition and gave the classic silhouette a little extra edge.
