When Vogue World arrived at the Place Vendôme on June 23, 2024, the intersection of French athletic history and haute couture took center stage. Among the attendees, Diane Kruger’s ensemble stood out as a deliberate nod to the “Roaring Twenties,” a decade that redefined both women’s fashion and the Olympic spirit in Paris.

Walking the red carpet alongside fiancé Norman Reedus—who opted for a restrained, monochromatic look in a black short-sleeved shirt and oxfords—Kruger leaned into a darker, more theatrical interpretation of vintage glamour.

Inside Diane Kruger’s 2024 Vogue World Look at Place Vendôme

Established in 2022 with the goal of “[bringing] together the fashion industry in a spirit of creativity to celebrate a host city,” Vogue World has become a covetable social gathering.

This year’s edition, held at the Place Vendôme—known for its elegant and fashionable atmosphere—honors Paris’ artistic heritage and rich history while commemorating the ties between sports and French fashion that have existed for over a century, dating back to the 1920s.

Like the Met Gala, Vogue World is a philanthropic endeavor. This year’s ticket proceeds will benefit Secours Populaire Français (French Popular Relief), a non-profit that works to meet the needs of the next generation of athletes by providing equipment to young, aspiring athletes around France.

A crowd of fashion-forward celebs graced the event, showcasing their wide range of styles, but Diane Kruger was one of the few who caught my attention.

Kruger’s approach to red-carpet dressing often balances classic silhouettes with unexpected, slightly subversive details. For this event, she chose a look that played with transparency and texture, referencing the era of the “flapper” through a modern, artisanal lens.

Diane Kruger Channels Roaring Twenties Drama in Nina Ricci

The mom-of-one accentuated her slim figure in a daring see-through outfit consisting of a sheer lace halterneck bodysuit, floral-lace fishnet stockings, and a pinstripe miniskirt. This created the illusion of a three-piece ensemble that leaned toward the more relaxed and revealing style of the 1920s.

I initially thought she was wearing a lace catsuit, but as I looked closer, I could see that her stockings and bodice had different floral lace patterns. I also wasn’t sure whether the pinstripe miniskirt was part of the lace set, but it would be interesting if it was.

I love how the halterneck bodice highlights her stunning form and toned arms, with a cleavage-baring plunging neckline, a keyhole cutout, and an open back. The navy-blue pinstripe skirt, meanwhile, resembles an office pencil skirt but is shorter and has a chic ruffle detailing down the side.

British-American fashion designer Harris Reed designed the ensemble for Nina Ricci’s Fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection, his third season for the Parisian fashion house.

This season’s collection, which refines the brand’s signature architectural forms and crisp tailoring, features pieces designed to reveal or conceal. “I think I can confidently say, hate or love it, this is the Nina woman for me in 2024,” Harris told Vogue of his collection.

“She is this fierce French woman from an outside perspective, but that’s what makes it me and makes it hopefully special.”

A Veiled Pillbox Hat and Bow-Heel Pumps Finish the Look

Her accessories feel particularly well judged—pieces that balance the look without overpowering it. Styled by Harry Lambert, whose clients include Becky G, Alexa Chung, Emilia Clarke, and Sienna Miller, the finishing touches lean considered rather than excessive.

The pillbox hat with its fine fishnet veil sets the tone immediately, nodding to Roaring Twenties glamour without feeling costume-like. It adds a layer of controlled drama—more about suggestion than statement—echoing a wider revival of veiled headpieces, as seen when Demi Moore wore a similar style at the Feud: Capote vs. The Swans FYC event.

Her jewelry stays restrained by comparison. A pair of gold heart-shaped drop earrings softens the look, while her square-cut diamond engagement ring adds a sharper, more modern counterpoint against black-manicured nails.

If anything, the symmetry of the setting—flanked by attendants in matching pillbox caps—momentarily dilutes the impact. Still, Kruger’s presence holds, with the accessories working to frame rather than compete with the look.

Now, on to the shoes. These ultra-glossy patent leather pumps may seem basic, but the heels lend an interesting element to the overall look.

They have gold-tone metal heels adorned with a sculptural bow accent, adding a contemporary, feminine flair to the femme-fatale ensemble.

Red Lips and Soft Waves Complete the Vintage-Femme-Fatale Finish

Not even the veil could hide Kruger’s stunning beauty. She wore vibrant red makeup, adding to the vintage grandeur of her appearance. Smokey red eyeshadow with a hint of brown shade and shimmering glitter brought out her blue eyes.

Joshua Jackson’s ex dusted her cheeks with a rosy blush, creating a flushed look, and then finished the glam with bright red lipstick.

Hairstylist Yoann Fernandez gave Diane’s blonde hair a gentle wave effect that heightened the ensemble’s 1920s glamour.

The Modern Pump, Reimagined Through Detail and Structure

Diane Kruger’s Vogue World look works because it doesn’t rely on excess—it sharpens familiar elements. A classic pointed-toe pump becomes something more deliberate through high-gloss patent leather, a sculptural heel, and a single, well-placed embellishment.

That balance—between restraint and statement—is what defines the current direction of evening footwear. Designers aren’t reinventing the silhouette as much as refining it, using materials, transparency, and architectural heels to shift how a pump feels on the foot and reads from a distance.
