Defending her recent Super Bowl halftime with Shakira and Emme Maribel Muñiz, which was criticized by some as being “too sexy,” Jennifer Lopez sparkled in a sequin-embellished tulle turtleneck from Valentino at the 2020 Film Independent Spirit Awards on a Saturday afternoon in February 2020 at the pier in Santa Monica, California.

She styled her top with a pleated cotton-blend maxi skirt from the same Valentino Pre-Fall 2020 Collection, sparkling Casadei shoes, a crystal Judith Leiber clutch bag, and Anabela Chan diamond earrings.
Other stars who impressed on the red carpet included Idina Menzel in a Michael Kors Spring 2020 peplum dress with Casadei sandals and Greta Gerwig in a strapless, olive-green Dior Haute Couture gown paired with classic Jimmy Choo pumps.
Jennifer Lopez Responds to Super Bowl Halftime Show Criticism
At the Independent Spirit Awards, Jennifer Lopez brushed off criticism that her Super Bowl halftime show with Shakira was “too sexy,” calling the backlash “silliness.” The Hustlers star emphasized that both she and Shakira are “respectful performers” and mothers who approached the performance with care and cultural pride.
She described the show — which featured dynamic choreography, pole-dancing sequences, and a children’s choir — as a celebration of women and Latino heritage.
“The message was about standing up for yourself and being proud of who you are,” Lopez said. “That’s what I want little girls to take away.”

Lopez called the night “amazing,” adding that she remains deeply proud of a performance that united global audiences and showcased the strength and artistry of Latina women.

“The message of standing up for yourself, being a woman. That’s what I want to pass on to little girls: You’re strong, you’re beautiful. Everything about you, be proud of it,” she said. “I’m very proud of the performance that night.”
JLO was nominated for Best Supporting Female for her work in the movie Hustlers. Zhao Shuzhen won the award for her role in “The Farewell,” although she was unable to attend the ceremony. The 85-year-old Chinese actress was unable to leave her native China due to the coronavirus outbreak.
