In “Life Partners,” Leighton Meester plays Sasha, a lesbian navigating her career and love life. At the same time, her best friend Paige (Gillian Jacobs) embarks on a serious relationship with Tim (Adam Brody).

Originally, Kristen Bell was set to play Sasha but had to drop out due to pregnancy, followed by Evan Rachel Wood, who also exited for the same reason.
Early drafts of the script included a plot about Paige promising not to marry until same-sex marriage was legal, which was later dropped when it became legal in California.
