In August 2021, Lizzo celebrated the release of Rumors with a series of attention-grabbing Los Angeles outings that blurred the line between music promotion and personal style. Rather than relying on traditional merch, she wore pieces that directly referenced the song’s lyrics while pairing them with footwear that reinforced each look’s distinct mood.

Arriving at Craig’s on August 24, she wore the officially released “Fake Boobs/Ass” black swimsuit from her merchandise collection, styling it as a streetwear bodysuit with frayed denim shorts and black patent croc-effect ankle boots. The graphic referenced lyrics from Rumors, transforming the tabloid rumors she mocked in the song into a playful fashion statement.

Four days earlier, Lizzo showcased another merchandise-inspired look while arriving at Catch in West Hollywood. Instead of the slogan bodysuit she later wore at Craig’s, she centered the outfit around a graphic T-shirt featuring her own image, proving that the Rumors rollout relied on fashion as much as music to reinforce its message.

The design was released as part of Lizzo’s official Rumors merchandise collection. “Fake boobs” appears across the front while “fake ass” is printed on the back—direct references to the song’s lyrics, which sarcastically confront rumors about her appearance. Her name printed on one shoulder strap further tied the piece to the single’s rollout.

Lizzo has long embraced body positivity with candor and humor. In 2019, she joked on Instagram, “Titties longer than my relationships.” Speaking to the Star Tribune in 2016, she said that while audiences might see her in a bra and panties, they would also hear about “the struggles that women like me have to go through to feel comfortable taking our clothes off.”

The rapper has also credited her move to Minneapolis with strengthening her confidence. Recalling the city’s culture in a 2016 interview with Vinyl Me, Please, Lizzo said seeing people express themselves without worrying about conventional beauty standards encouraged her “to be who I was and start wearing it on my skin.”

Lizzo paired the graphic swimsuit with frayed Daisy Dukes, letting the oversized typography remain the focal point while adding black patent croc-effect ankle boots with rounded block heels.

Although her styling team never officially identified the boots, their glossy finish added structure and contrast to the casual cut-off denim, giving the outfit a more polished street-style edge.

For her beauty look, the Juice hitmaker wore her tresses in curls styled with small butterfly clips on the sides. She then added a swipe of nude lipstick and a hint of blush, hiding her eyes behind oversized square-frame sunglasses.

Oversized square sunglasses, crystal hoop earrings, and a custom rhinestone bucket bag bearing her name reinforced the playful, self-referential tone of the outfit without competing with the graphic bodysuit.

Lizzo Pairs Leather Fringe Pants With White Pointed-Toe Heels at Catch

The previous week, the Tempo singer went edgy in an all-black outfit as she arrived at Catch restaurant in West Hollywood.

For dinner at Catch, Lizzo paired a black graphic T-shirt printed with a bikini photo of herself and the slogan “Enuff to Feed the Needy” with dramatic leather fringe pants trimmed in silver grommets. Like the “Fake Boobs/Ass” bodysuit she later wore at Craig’s, the shirt used self-aware humor to reclaim criticism while making the merchandise itself the focal point of the outfit.

The floor-length fringe nearly concealed her white pointed-toe heels, revealing only the crisp leather tips as she walked. That glimpse of bright white footwear cut through the all-black palette, creating a sharp contrast that balanced the movement and texture of the trousers without competing with them.

Adding some bling to the look, Lizzo accessorized with large silver hoops, a couple of silver rings, and a small black clutch with silver-tone hardware.

She then parted her curly tresses in the middle and glammed up for the night with false eyelashes and nude lip gloss.

Lizzo Addresses Online Abuse After the Release of “Rumors”

Following the release of Rumors, Lizzo addressed the wave of online abuse she received during an appearance on Good Morning America.

Coming shortly after an emotional Instagram Live in which she revealed facing “fat-phobic” and “racist” comments, she spoke about the disproportionate scrutiny Black women face in the music industry despite being “the innovators.”

Lizzo said the internet had also given her a platform that made it impossible to be “erased,” adding, “I chose to be undeniable and I chose to be loud and I chose to be great. And I’m still here.”

While she said she could accept criticism of her music and even comments about her appearance, she argued that “the treatment that people like me receive” should not be normalized. She ended on a hopeful note, saying her willingness to be vulnerable is meant to inspire others: “People just need to know I got this.”
