I just saw Beyonce’s new “Run The World (Girls)” video which premiered on American Idol‘s Top 3 performance episode last Wednesday. All I can say is if this is how girls are going to dress when the world supposedly ends today, then let it be.
I’m just kidding of course but I am absolutely loving how fashionable Beyonce and her stylist Ty Hunter’s visions of a post-apocalyptic world are. My eyes were glued to the TV trying to take in as much of Beyonce’s different outfits and I felt very visually rewarded.
For a video about ruling the world, Queen Beyonce’s first regal look in the video was aptly from Alexander McQueen:
Beyonce wore a look straight off the Alexander McQueen Fall 2010 runway which as you may know is the very last collection McQueen himself worked on.
In this still, Beyonce is wearing the Alexander McQueen Grinling Gibbons Gold Heeled Thigh High Show Boots which retailed for $3,995.00 when they were available. An expensive price but with McQueen’s death and Beyonce wearing them in her video, I’m betting that the price on them has gone even higher.
FYI: This entire look is straight out of Beyonce’s own closet. Every single female you see here is wearing something from Beyonce’s personal wardrobe which Beyonce herself has worn in the past.
Beyonce’s next look was full-on fringe from head-to-toe. LA designer Brian Lichtenberg is responsible for that black fur vest while Norma Kamali is behind those fringe shorts.
A custom made Giuseppe Zanotti gold plate body piece held everything together and black fringe sandals which swished and swayed with Beyonce’s every dance move finished the whole look. Those fringe sandals were made by Ty Hunter himself, the person behind all of the amazing high fashion ensembles in this entire video.
Beyonce wore a couple of couture gowns from the Givenchy and Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2011 Couture collections after the fringe dance sequence. This ultimate look of the entire video came next:
This is what kept my eyes glued to the TV for the remaining two and half minutes in the video. How can anything top this Gareth Pugh Fall 2011 dress with metallic gold scales?
And the shoes? Very appropriately named as Gareth Pugh Starship Enterprise heels. I felt like stomping my foot down along with Beyonce in this part of the video.
Beyonce then changed into this yellow Emilio Pucci Spring 2010 dress with thigh high slits up to there. This look was used in the sneak previews so everyone knows that her shoes are the Sergio Rossi Fall 2010 Talisman gladiator boots with studs and feather details.
After writhing in the sand in a Norma Kamali Aztec black jumpsuit, Beyonce slipped into her last look for the video:
While her green Emilio Pucci Fall 2011 sequin sleeve gown looked amazing, those combat boots she’s wearing them with are nothing to note. I’m not even going to bother finding out who made them because c’mon, they’re combat boots.
After a series of jaw-dropping high fashion shoes, wrapping up with these combat boots was a downer for me. I also took it as a premonition of the confusing ending in which Beyonce and the strong, world-running girls gave the men in the video, of all things, a salute:
Anyway, I’m still going to make this song my summer jam.
