Some of our favorite stars gathered at the Hollywood Palladium for the 2026 Film Independent Spirit Awards, celebrating the best in independent film and television from 2025.

There were many noteworthy looks on the red carpet this year. Some stuck with classic black-and-white, and others embraced lighter colors and vibrant springtime floral motifs.

When it came to footwear, though, only a few dared to take risks. Many opted for classic pumps, which were a practical and polished choice.

Still, a handful used their shoes to make a statement. Zoey Deutch, Rebecca Hall, Lake Bell, and Dree Hemingway were among those who turned heads with more eye-catching designs. Meanwhile, Nina Dobrev, Keke Palmer, Erin Doherty, Kirsten Dunst, and others kept their footwear understated, letting their more elaborate dresses take center stage.

Here’s a closer look at the fashion from this year’s Film Independent Spirit Awards red carpet.

Zoey Deutch’s Sheer-Peep Valentino Moment: “Revele” PVC-Trim Pumps + Lace Tights

Zoey Deutch stepped onto the red carpet looking every bit the polished Valentino muse. Nominated for Best Supporting Performance for her role in Nouvelle Vague, she went head-to-toe in the Italian luxury fashion house, and I couldn’t stop staring at how effortlessly put-together she looked.

Zoey slipped into Valentino’s $1,100 “Revele” pumps, the same pair worn by Lily Allen and Shay Mitchell at the brand’s Paris Fashion Week show in January. Made in Italy from black suede, they featured a peep toe with a clear PVC strip across the front and high-cut sides that almost wrapped around the foot, giving them a sleek, architectural feel. The 4.1-inch stiletto heels added that sharp finishing touch.

Deutch paired the shoes with Valentino’s floral lace tights, which elevated the look and gave it a retro touch. They’re on sale for $552 (from $690) at Mytheresa.

Zoey wore Valentino’s $5,600 off-white wool crepe caban coat as a dress, and I love it when a tailored coat is styled this way. It skimmed her thighs and highlighted her slender frame with long sleeves, subtle padded shoulders, and a softly cinched waist. Snap-button closures ran down the front, while flap pockets provided just enough structure.

What really caught my eye was the black crepe-satin trim at the neckline, topped with an oversized black bow. It gave the look a prim, feminine touch without being overwhelming.

Zoey finished things off with black sunnies, a sleek center-parted bun, and soft pink-toned makeup.

Rebecca Hall’s Architectural Jil Sander Mules: Chunky Wedge Heel + Looping White Straps

Rebecca Hall, who was up for Best Supporting Actress for Peter Hujar’s Day, stepped out in one of Jil Sander’s latest designs from the Spring Summer 2026 collection.

The black leather pair featured an open back, like classic mules, and high, covered vamps, giving them a slightly chunky appearance. What stood out were the contrasting white looping straps that curved from the back toward the sides, creating a bold effect against the black leather.

The heel was thick and slightly curved, like a wedge, giving the shoe a sculptural, architectural feel. It was definitely innovative, though it felt slightly too heavy against her blue dress.

Hall paired them with a royal-blue Jil Sander midi dress that flattered her figure. The fitted bodice featured a Y-shaped cutout panel that left the sides open, offering a glimpse of her sideboobs. It cinched her around the hips and fell just below the knees, creating a sleek silhouette. You can get it for $2,790 at Farfetch.

Rebecca kept her jewelry minimal, skipping rings, bracelets, and necklaces in favor of Jacquie Aiche earrings that added just the right amount of sparkle. Her loose, wavy hair framed her face, while her peachy makeup completed the look.

Nina Dobrev’s Golden Glimpse: Satin Point-Toe Pumps Under a Carolina Herrera Rose Gown

Nina Dobrev had one of the most striking looks on the blue carpet, and I honestly couldn’t look away. We barely saw her shoes, but she wore gold satin pumps with pointed toes that peeked out from beneath her gown.

From what I could tell, they likely featured slim stiletto heels, giving her that extra height and a boost of confidence.

She paired them with a breathtaking $4,990 yellow gown from the Carolina Herrera Spring 2026 collection, which was clearly the focal point here. The saffron-colored silk-crepe fabric alone was enough to turn heads. It was bold yet fresh, and the airy silhouette made it perfect for a spring event. The dress was fitted through the bust with a plunging sweetheart neckline, then flowed into an A-line floor-sweeping skirt. It had an effortless drape that looked relaxed yet incredibly flattering on her frame.

Then came the painterly red rose prints scattered across the fabric. It felt romantic and vibrant, very signature Herrera!

Nina skipped a necklace and kept her neckline clean, adding a delicate bracelet, two rings, and a pair of dangling earrings for a little sparkle. She finished the look with a Tyler Ellis Perry Clutch Small in Butterscotch Plexi, which perfectly matched the warm tones of her dress.

Dree Hemingway’s Barely-There Chloé Heels: PVC Slingbacks With Structured Side Panels

Dree Hemingway stepped out in a pair of shoes from Chloé’s Spring 2026 collection, and they were definitely one of the more intriguing choices of the night.

The heels featured thick, clear straps across the toes, trimmed in nude leather, which gave the illusion of being barely there. The sides featured slightly raised leather panels that held her foot in place, and the shoes were finished with a slingback strap and high heels.

Clear shoes are having a moment again. They’re not always my personal favorite, but I can’t deny how interesting and fashion-forward this pair felt.

Dree paired them with a yellow floral dress from the same Chloé collection, and I liked the coordination! The dress felt very spring, bright, and fresh. It featured a sweetheart bow neckline with soft ruffle trims, a fitted waist, and a gathered, draped skirt that wrapped to one side and fastened with a bow. I especially loved the long ribbons that dangled from the dress, adding movement as she walked.

This look leaned more feminine than the cool, effortless vibe she’s usually known for, but I actually liked seeing that softer side. Dree kept her accessories minimal with dangling earrings and a single ring. Her blonde hair flowed naturally behind her, and her makeup was kept simple, with a touch of blush and lipstick.

Keke Palmer Keeps It Classic: Nude Christian Louboutin Pumps With Vintage Galliano Dior

Keke Palmer, who was nominated for Best Lead Performance for One of Them Days, kept her footwear simple in a pair of nude Christian Louboutin pumps. They were classic with pointed toes and high heels, clean and timeless.

However, I wish the nude tone had been slightly lighter to blend better with her yellow-ivory outfit. The slightly pinkish nude didn’t fully complement the warmth of the dress, at least to me.

Keke wore an archival two-piece set designed by John Galliano for Christian Dior’s Spring 2004 collection, and I love it when someone pulls vintage like this. The bustier halter top featured a floral jacquard design, structured bra cups, and a corseted bodice that sculpted her waist. It felt feminine yet strong, and very Galliano.

The skirt was more deconstructed, mixing the same jacquard with diagonal panels of plain ivory satin and a draped accent at the front. It fell below her knees, and while I’m not completely sold on the skirt’s proportions, the texture contrast made it interesting.

Keke styled her pixie cut in soft curls and leaned into dramatic makeup with bronzed eyeshadow, fluttery lashes, and lipstick. Multiple earrings, a delicate necklace, bangles, and rings added just enough sparkle to finish off her look.

Lake Bell’s Lace Statement: Black Mesh Pumps Paired With a Norma Kamali Fishtail Gown

I know the dress is the obvious focus here, but for me, the shoes stole the show. Lake Bell wore a pair of lace pumps made entirely of mesh lace with leather trims for structure.

They had sharp, pointed toes and slim stiletto heels that echoed the long, lean line of her gown. The delicate lace against the solid black dress created a subtle contrast. It felt elegant but still interesting.

Bell’s dress, by Norma Kamali, was simple yet striking. The off-the-shoulder neckline framed her shoulders beautifully, while the slinky jersey fabric clung to her frame like a second skin.

It fit closely through the bodice and hips with quarter-length sleeves, then flared slightly at the knees into a soft fishtail shape. The silhouette was clean, flattering, and quietly dramatic. It’s available for $350 at Revolve.

Lake Bell added long, dramatic Lisa Eisner earrings that brushed just above her shoulders, bringing a bit of shine to the all-black look. Her makeup was kept minimal, and her hair fell in relaxed, tousled waves behind her.

Erin Doherty’s Modern Jimmy Choo “Ixia” Pumps: Sculptural Drop Heels + Sharp Square Vamps

Erin Doherty showed up looking completely in her element. She won Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series for Adolescence that night, and I loved how true she stayed to her modern aesthetic, embracing clean lines and architectural drama.

Doherty wore Jimmy Choo’s “Ixia” pumps, which were far from your typical black heels. Crafted in Italy from glossy patent leather, they featured sharp, pointed toes, square-cut vamps, and contemporary 3.7-inch drop heels, giving them a sculptural edge.

The glossy patent leather gave the pumps a more elevated feel, and I liked that even though they were black heels, they still felt modern and interesting. They retail for $975 at Farfetch.

Erin Doherty paired them with a black mini dress from New York-based label Lii, known for its minimalist yet sculptural designs. Obviously, this piece was a perfect example. The sleeveless LBD featured soft draping along the front, but the standout detail was the cape-like back. Its hem was tied at her wrists, creating volume and movement that gave the silhouette an architectural feel. It reminded me slightly of her plumbob-style Louis Vuitton dress at the Critics’ Choice Awards, just more refined this time.

Doherty then wore sheer black tights and added a bold pop of color with Completed Works’ “Between the Tides” earrings, on sale for $186 (from $310) at Net-a-Porter. The red resin droplets lined with crystals matched her lipstick beautifully. Pulling her hair into a sleek side-parted bun really let those earrings shine.

Kirsten Dunst’s Boho Gold Platforms: Gianvito Rossi “Marlena” Sandals + Valentino Florals

Kirsten Dunst may have lost Best Supporting Performance to Naomi Ackie that night, but style-wise, she absolutely delivered. She looked completely spring-ready, and the whole vibe felt very her.

Her gold Gianvito Rossi platform sandals barely peeked out from under her long dress, but I actually liked that subtle flash of shine. She wore the “Marlena” sandals, handmade in Italy from metallic-effect gold leather with a mirror-like finish.

They featured open, rounded toes, 1.5-inch platforms, and chunky 5-inch heels. An ankle strap with the brand’s signature Ribbon buckle added a feminine touch while keeping the fit secure. They retail for $1,095 at Net-a-Porter.

Kirsten paired them with a Valentino floral dress scattered with pastel pink, purple, and beige blooms. The dress leaned fully into that effortless, romantic, slightly bohemian style she’s known for.

It featured bell sleeves and a neckline trimmed with ruffles, plus a tiered skirt layered over a flowing underlayer that moved gently as she walked. I especially loved the gold cord-like belt at the waist, which tied everything together.

For a hint of sparkle, Dunst wore Starling Jewelry’s Sapphire Rose Cut Lark Ring and the Aquamarine Rosa Birthstone Ring. Her loose waves completed the dreamy, easy feel of her look.

Mary Bronstein’s Dark-Romance Mary Janes: Sequin Renaissance Renaissance Pumps + Grosgrain Ribbons

Mary Bronstein embraced a slightly gothic mood, and I have to say, I was into it. Nominated for Best Director for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, she wore a full look from Renaissance Renaissance’s Fall Winter 2025 collection.

Her shoes looked like classic Mary Janes at first glance, with a strap across the foot, but the details made all the difference. Covered in shimmering black sequins, the pumps subtly caught the light, adding rich texture.

They also featured squared toes accented with long grosgrain ribbons, giving the design a dramatic, playful finish. The slightly flared heels gave them a sculptural touch, widening at the base and making the silhouette feel a little dramatic without going over the top.

Bronstein wore them with sheer black tights, which really leaned into that soft but slightly dark vibe. Her gray dress from the same collection featured a deep, plunging neckline that reached the sternum, balanced by a thin scarf around her neck.

It also had short sleeves and black tulle detailing on the skirt, plus a bubble hem that hit mid-calf, adding volume to the whole look. Mary then completed her ensemble with black elbow-length leather gloves, tying everything together and making it feel even more dramatic.

Xosha Roquemore’s Calla Lily Heels: Cult Gaia “Cassidy” Sandals That Bloom on the Toe Strap

Xosha Roquemore looked so fresh and spring-ready on the carpet, and I immediately fell in love with her shoes. She was nominated for Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series for Forever, and she definitely made a stylish impression.

She wore the Cult Gaia “Cassidy” sandals, which were easily one of my favorite pairs of the night. A 3D sculptural white calla lily sat across the toes, with a green stem elegantly wrapped around her foot. It was fun and whimsical, the kind of shoe people would stop and ask about.

Their nude 4.3-inch heels gave her height without taking attention away from the flower detail. These statement sandals retail for $598 at Farfetch.

Xosha paired the standout heels with an off-white knit dress by Albanian designer Alisa Dudaj. The fabric hugged her figure beautifully and had subtle beaded accents at the bodice that delicately highlighted her chest. The halter neckline and sleeveless cut kept the look clean and modern, while the length fell just at the ankle, perfectly showcasing the stunning sandals.

She also added a shawl-like detail, draping it around her arms, which softened the look and added a little extra drama.

Issa Rae’s Liquid-Gold Finish: Le Silla “Bella” Strappy Sandals + Retrofête Crystal Mesh

Issa Rae showed up glowing, and I mean that literally. Attending with her One of Them Days co-stars, she sparkled in gold from head to toe and honestly looked like a trophy herself.

She wore the Le Silla “Bella” sandals, made in Italy from metallic gold goatskin leather. The straps crossed over her foot fluidly and wrapped around her ankle, which I thought looked really elegant. The pointed open toes and pin-thin stiletto heels kept the silhouette sharp and feminine.

These Le Silla Bella leather sandals are on sale for $1,267 (from $1,570) at Farfetch.

Issa Rae matched the heels perfectly with her Retrofête “Melania” crystal dress, priced at $2,198 at Revolve. Made in India from nylon, the unlined sequin-embellished mesh hugged her figure like a second skin. From the front, it was clean and minimal, but the side cutouts and deep V-shaped back added that sultry edge. The long skirt featured a thigh-high slit that showcased her legs and gold sandals.

Issa pulled her hair into a high ponytail and leaned fully into the sparkle with her jewelry. She wore multiple rings, a $40,000 Hearts on Fire Inside Out Pave Link Bracelet with 9.1 carats of diamonds, and matching $13,200 earrings with 1.5 carats of pavé diamonds.
