After taking a break from the public spotlight for a few months, Selena Gomez made an unexpected comeback at the 2016 American Music Awards held at the Microsoft Theatre on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Selena Gomez took a break from her “Revival” tour last August to focus on her mental health after revealing that she has lupus, which can cause anxiety, panic attacks, and depression.

“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” Selena said in a statement.

“I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks, and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”

“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness, and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.”

The 24-year-old Wizards of Waverly Place actress stunned in a red satin Prada gown featuring a fitted bodice and a billowing skirt.
