When it comes to high-profile appearances, few supermodels navigate the intersection of heritage and high fashion as seamlessly as Alessandra Ambrosio.

On September 7, 2022, the Brazilian icon visited New York City to light the Empire State Building in celebration of Brazil’s bicentennial independence. While the event marked 200 years of history since Brazil moved on from Portuguese rule in 1822, it was Ambrosio’s monochromatic green ensemble that caught the attention of the fashion world.

Originally from Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul, the veteran Victoria’s Secret Angel often uses her global platform to represent her home country. For this historic milestone, she leaned into a bold, citrus-inspired palette that paired luxury British tailoring with emerging vegan footwear—a look that remains a masterclass in tonal styling.

Alessandra Ambrosio Turns Heads in Acid-Green Alexander McQueen Gown

Alessandra highlighted her statuesque frame in an acid-green maxi dress by British fashion designer Alexander McQueen. The dress features a halter neckline and ruched detailing on the bodice. We wonder why she didn’t pick a Brazilian fashion designer to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Brazil’s independence.

Hugging every inch of Ale’s toned curves, the fitted number also comes with a center thigh-high slit, allowing her to showcase her long, toned legs.

L’Atelier Nawbar Jewelry Adds Luxe Green Accents to the Look

The mom-of-two kept the green theme by accessorizing with green jewelry featuring malachite gemstones from Lebanese jewelry brand L’Atelier Nawbar.

She wore several rings, including a $1,800 gold-and-yellow Bombay ring, a $1,900 malachite-and-bamboo ring, an $185 All Eyez On Me ring, and an $185 Nothing Compares 2 U ring, curated by her stylist, Heather Smith.

The Brazilian model also wore a gold bangle and bracelet on each wrist and added a simple pair of stud earrings.

Neutral Glam and Loose Waves: Alessandra’s Effortlessly Chic Beauty Look

Makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez created a naturally sexy look by applying neutral makeup on Alessandra’s face. She used Armani Beauty to highlight her features, with shimmering peachy eyeshadow, dark eyeliner and mascara, and glossy neutral lipstick.

Meanwhile, hairstylist Dominick Pucciarello styled Ale’s brunette tresses in loose waves cascading down her back.

Femme LA Lime Green Mules Steal the Show With Bold, Vegan Design

Adding extra inches to her impressive height, Ambrosio showed off her feet in Femme LA’s Donatella mules in lime green faux patent leather. Ciara wore them in black at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.

Interestingly, Alessandra Ambrosio chose a British designer and an American footwear brand for such a patriotic occasion. With Brazilian designers like Alexandre Birman known for their elegant craftsmanship, one might have expected her to highlight her roots through local fashion.

Instead, she opted for an acid-green gown by Alexander McQueen and vibrant mules from Femme LA—a Los Angeles-based fashion footwear brand founded by Janis Tello.

Known for its sustainable, cruelty-free designs using vegan materials and biodegradable packaging, Femme LA has become a go-to for bold, modern styles inspired by California cool. Below, we spotlight other celebrities who’ve stepped out in Femme LA’s standout shoes.
