When Amanda Seyfried and Charlize Theron stepped out at Claridge’s Hotel in London on May 27, 2014, the footwear choices for their A Million Ways to Die in the West photo call told a story of extreme proportions.

To balance their dramatic height difference—Charlize Theron standing tall at 5 feet 9¾ inches (177.2 cm) and Amanda Seyfried measuring 5 feet 2½ inches (158.8 cm)—stylists leaned into a study in contrasts, pairing Seyfried’s towering stilettos with Theron’s delicate kitten heels.

Despite the strategic footwear, the height gap remained a striking focal point. Seyfried braved the event in “skyscraper” sandals that added several inches to her frame, while Theron, who famously towers over peers like Kristen Stewart and Sean Penn, kept it grounded in a low-profile silhouette.

And this is even after putting Amanda in skyscraper stilettos and Charlize in itty-bitty kitten-heel stumps. Nice try, stylists, but no dice.

To be fair to Amanda, it is difficult not to be dwarfed by statuesque Charlize, who is one of the tallest actresses in Hollywood.

Posing on their own, Amanda and Charlize blew us away with their ensembles, as usual. Amanda took the edgy route in an Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2014 LBD with ornate gold embellishments and a zip-off bottom hem.

Charlize was the classy-casual lady in a Stella McCartney kimono-top LBD that looked deceptively plain at first but actually had a python texture.

Charlize’s kitten heels are the Loeffler Randall “Lillit” sandals, from the female-led brand founded by designer Jessie Randall, who famously created the label’s logo in 2004 by cutting up her own wedding invitation and fitting the name inside the outline of a shoe.
